Kim Harold Young, 59, of Idaho Falls, died April 14, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of a pulmonary embolism.
He was born June 24, 1948, in Denver, Colo., to Harold Mark Young and Helen Joan Ciesla Young. He grew up and attended schools in Pueblo, Colo., and graduated from Centennial High School in 1966. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho. From 1966 to 1972, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam in the U.S. Nuclear Navy.
On Oct. 8, 1970, he married Alyce Marie Moir in Rexburg. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked at INL for 27 years as electrical foreman.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including as a counselor in the branch presidency of the Taylor Mountain Stake singles branch. He enjoyed woodworking, hiking, swimming, fishing and camping. Kim was well known as a handyman and many relied on his vast knowledge; when he was not serving others, he loved teasing his daughters and spending time with his family -- most recently, his three grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Alyce Young of Idaho Falls; daughters, Annette (Bob) Ballard of Victor, Barbara (Jonathan) Lords and Pamela (Mike) Meservey, both of Idaho Falls, and Nikki Young of Driggs; mother, Helen Young of Denver, Colo.; siblings, Marc (Tracy) Young of Loveland, Colo., Charlene (David) Culbreath of Amarillo, Texas, Debbie (Pierre) Bettelli of Denver, Colo., and Melanie (Brian) Young of Rockton, Pa.; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Idaho Falls LDS Boulevard Ward, 351 W. 14th St. in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Neil Russell officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, both at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby-Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home of Idaho Falls. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
