Lynn Clousing Obituary

Lynn Bernard Clousing, 78, of Idaho Falls, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Lincoln Court Retirement Center in Idaho Falls.

He was born Dec. 22, 1934, at Chicago, the son of Lawrence Cornelius and Linnet Jane Davies Clousing. Lynn spent his earlier years in Chicago until moving with his family to Montana at the age of 11.

After graduating high school, he went to work in a blacksmith shop for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Livingston, Mont. Lynn thought he was one of the last blacksmith apprentice hired because a year later, the diesels engines arrived.

In 1953, Lynn married Betty Bouchee and later moved to Billings, Mont., where he started a 35-year newspaper career, mostly in advertising. They later divorced.

In 1965, he married Sandra Hurley and they later divorced.

After stops in Idaho Falls, Merced, Calif., and Klamath Falls, Ore., he ended up in Antioch, Calif. where he worked as the advertising director.

Lynn met and married Elaine Palmer. They later divorced.

In 1979, he purchased part-ownership in a small weekly paper, which he sold nine years later.

Lynn moved to Idaho Falls in 1994 to enjoy his retirement. It is here where Lynn married Mary Patricia Rhoades. She preceded him in death in 2006.

In 2010, Lynn married Eunice Halkar. She preceded him in death in 2011.

He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, traveling and playing cards, and he was an avid fan of stock car racing. Lynn was fun-loving and had a great since of humor, and enjoyed spending time with his special friend, Lela Stewart, at Lincoln Court.

Survivors include three daughters, Toby Lynn (Ted) Smart of Salem, Va., Terri Louise (Rick) Clark of Idaho Falls and Lyla Kay Andelin of Greenville, Calif.; two sons, Rodney Scott Clousing of Great Valley, N.Y., and Russell Steven (Angela) Clousing of LeGrande, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, two wives and one granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 W. Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls, with Reverend Larry Cudmore officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.

I am glad Lynn was a part of my life and I will always remember him for the way he treated and loved my mother - especially during her long battle with Parkinson's Disease. So sorry to hear of Lynn's passing. We got to know him while he was here in Brentwood. He helped my son launch his career with the City of Brentwood fresh out of high school and he is still with them now at age 47. He also help our daughter launch her career in sales with the newspaper and later they worked together on their own project with advertising. Lynn had a great sense of humor, was very, very intelligent and was always will to help someone. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our prayers go out to his family.

Lynn was a very special blessing to my family and me. To my three kids, he was "Unka Lynn" - to me he was "Crash". Other than my boys, Lynn was my favorite golf partner. He was huge part of my Mom's life. He will be missed very much by all of us. Our prayers are offered up on the family's behalf

I'm sorry to hear of Lynn's passing. I have fond memories of him in Antioch singing with the choir of First Congregational Church. Even if you think you're prepared, the passing of a loved one is hard. Be gentle on yourselves and remember the grief takes a thousand tellings - tell your stories.

My heart goes out to Terri, Toby, Lyla, Rod and Russ and all those lovely grandkids and great grandkids who loved Lynn so much. The world was a brighter place with Lynn in it. He taught many of us about giving back to community and caring for those we love. He was so very precious to my mother who thought the sun rose and set in Lynn. He will be missed though we rest in the knowledge that he is at peace and rejoicing with those who preceded him.
