Virginia Scholes Rasmussen, after a two year struggle with heart failure, left Earth life April 22, 2017.
Virginia was born during a classic blizzard Jan. 30, 1932, the daughter of Walter A and Gladys Keveren Scholes in River Heights, Utah. After a move to Clark, Idaho, she attended school in Clark and Rigby. This was followed by a year at Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho, where she met and invited her future husband, Kenneth L Rasmussen, to a girls choice dance. Their fall wedding was in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Oct. 10, 1951.
She nurtured flowers for over 50 years at their homes in Idaho Falls, which were then transplanted to their home in Magna, Utah. Some were transplanted again to their current home in Ogden, Utah.
Virginia gave many years of service to others, including nearly 50 years of service to the Cub Scouts, where she earned the Silver Beaver Award. And for decades, she provided child cares services for over 300 toddlers in her home. Virginia and Kenneth served an LDS Mission in the California Oakland Mission and a service mission with the Special Needs Institute.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children, Kenneth LaRoy and Paula Rasmussen, Jeannine Olson, Brent and Meryl Rasmussen, Lyle and Tina Rasmussen, Cindy and Greg Hally, Steven, Doug and Rebecca Rasmussen and David and Anton Rasmussen-Spratt; daughters-in-law, Lori Rasmussen and Janae DuRee; 27 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the caregivers from Encompass Hospice for their care of Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 26, at Lorin Farr LDS Stake Center, 480 E. Seventh St., Ogden, Utah. Viewings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., both times at the stake center. Burial will follow at Ogden City Cemetery.
Arrangements entrusted to Provident Funeral Home – Ogden. Online condolences may be expressed at www.providentfuneralhome.com.
