Annette Smith Barber

Greenwich -- Annette Smith Barber, 81, a former Greenwich resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Facility in Argyle, where she had been a resident for the past eight years.

Born Nov. 12, 1924, in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harold F. and Edith Tattersall Smith.

Annette was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and was the vice president of her graduating class. She graduated from Skidmore College with a B.S. Degree in Nursing and was employed for many years for the Washington County Public Health Department.

She taught Sunday School at the Bottskill Baptist Church and was involved with the Battenkill Art League and was known for her animal portraits.

She and her late husband, Robert S. Barber, operated a Bed and Breakfast and Ski Trail on Thunder Mountain in Greenwich.

Survivors include her three children, Elizabeth J. "Betsey" Cockey and her husband, Dr. Barton Cockey, of Baltimore, Md., Susan B. Gordon and her husband, Mike Gordon, of Greenwich, and Thomas S. Barber and his wife, Gail, of Park City, Utah; three grandsons, Ian Vair, Burke Vair, and Mason Proud; three nieces and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at the United Church in Greenwich, with the Rev. Clyde McCaskill officiating.

Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.
