Daniel R. Burns
May 1, 1940 - Feb. 15, 2024
FORT EDWARD - Daniel Robert Burns, 83, a longtime resident of Easton and Greenwich, and more recently Fort Edward, passed peacefully Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family by his side, following a short illness.
Born in Troy, May 1, 1940, Dan was the son of the late Herbert J. and Dolores V. (Mosseau) Burns and, for over 37 years, the devoted husband and best friend of the late Jeanne (Buckley) Burns, who predeceased him May 27, 2006. Dan and Jeanne were married in Rhinebeck, NY, September 8, 1968.
After graduating from Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY and trying his hand at further education, Dan took a position with the Niagara Mohawk Company. Dan was a foreman at several Hydro Power Plant in Troy/Cohoes and several other local stations. After more than 35 years of service, making many work friends and surviving the company being bought and sold to several different entities, he retired in 2005. At the same time, he worked as the Head Electrician at the Schaghticoke fairgrounds to stay busy in the community and provide extra income for his growing family. After an additional 45 years of service and volunteer time, he retired in 2014 but remained on call to assist with electrical questions and repairs at the fairgrounds.
Dan was always willing to help his many friends and family members with their electrical projects and often let his own projects take a back seat to help the neighbors.
Dan enjoyed travel, taking road trips and Sunday drives with Jeanne to nowhere in particular, taking the road less traveled to see the country side or find a new ice cream stand. Dan loved desserts of all kinds - pie, ice cream, anything lemon or strawberry, and was known to trade electrical repairs for a good bit of cheesecake.
Dan is survived by his three sons and a daughter: Craig A. Burns of Greenwich, Amy L. Burns and Eric W. Burns of Fort Edward, and Paul R. Burns of WI; two brothers and a sister-in-law: Edward "Ned" Burns of Melrose and Michael and Joanne Burns of Troy; two grandchildren: Riley and Kasia Burns; nieces: Michaela and Casey; and nephews: John, David, and Christopher. In addition to his parents and wife, Dan was predeceased by a brother, John "Bud" Burns, and a sister, Patricia Cote.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held at the Schaghticoke fairgrounds being planned for later this summer and will be announced when plans are complete. A private graveside ceremony for Dan will be held at the convenience of the family later this spring in Elmwood Cemetery in Schaghticoke.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Rensselaer County Agricultural and Horticulture Society (Schaghticoke Fair Association), 69 Stillwater Bridge Road, Schaghticoke, NY 12154, or to the Ft. Edward Rescue Squad, 75 Schuyler Street, Fort Edward, NY 12828, in memory of Daniel R. Burns.

Sincere condolences to the Burns family. I had the pleasure of working with Dan at the various hydro stations for NIMO. HE was a fun guy & a mentor to those of us just starting at a hydro plant. RIP Dan.

Sorry to read this. I worked with Dan years ago in Mechanicville and our paths crossed many times after we left there. Worked being a figure of speech as he also taught me how to play cut throat pinochle. He was a great guy and I offer my deep condolences to his entire family. Jim Doody
