David Saehrig Obituary

David F. Saehrig

August 23, 1942 - November 3, 2025

TROY - David F. Saehrig, 83, a lifelong resident of Troy and summer resident of Brant Lake, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Elderwood in Ticonderoga following a long illness.

Born August 23, 1942, in Troy, he was the son of the late Julius and Alice (Gates) Saehrig.

Dave was a 1960 graduate of Lansingburgh High School. Following graduation, he enrolled at Hudson Valley Community College and earned a two-year degree as an engineering assistant. David dedicated 30 plus years to the City of Troy in the engineering department and was instrumental in creating accurate depictions of the city for movie productions and other key projects.

He was a big sports fan and could be found cheering on the local teams, as well as traveling to stadiums across the US with friends to watch baseball. For many years, Dave was the time clock keeper for the Albany Patroons under Phil Jackson. He also served on class reunion committees for his 50th and 60th class reunions and was the official photographer for both.

Dave was a dedicated volunteer at the historic Herman Melville House in Lansingburgh and was also a member of the Horicon Museum. In addition, he supported the Horicon Historical Society at Brant Lake and local fire department.

He loved spending time in the Adirondack Mountains and was an avid hiker. David loved taking photographs of the beautiful scenery and was the official photographer for any family event. He grew up spending time at his family's camp, Brant Manor in Brant Lake and assumed ownership with his sister, as his parents aged and were unable to maintain alone. At the ages of 55, 60, and 65, Dave swam the entire length of Brant Lake, a six-mile swim, to the amazement of all each time. He often led groups of kids on hikes and trips to music venues as well as evening trips to the local Dairy Queen. Dave entered several local canoe races and loved spending time on the lake. He was an outgoing man who loved and cared dearly for those in his life.

In addition to his parents, Dave is predeceased by his, sister, Linda M. O'Brien and husband William (Bill).

Survivors include his nephews, David Brant O'Brien and his wife, Stacy, and their daughter, Clare O'Brien, Casey Patrick O'Brien and his wife, Gabrielle, and children Sean and Skylar O'Brien and her husband, and many cousins and lifelong friends.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Church of the Good Shephard, 6343 US-9, Chestertown.

Following the funeral service, a celebration of Dave's life will take place at the Fort William Henry Conference Center Tavern in Lake George.

A graveside service will take place in the future at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy. Online condolences may be made by visiting:
