Dorothy "Dee Dee" Elizabeth Schroeder
July 14, 1940 - October 30, 2025
Dorothy "Dee Dee" Elizabeth Schroeder, 85, passed peacefully at home with her family by her side on October 30, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1940, in Albany, N.Y., to the late Edward and Dorothy (Chatfield) Eldredge.
Dee Dee was a loving mother to Jennifer and a doting grandmother to Lexie and Noah, who were the apples of her eye. Her son-in-law, Cliff, held a special place in her heart. She was also a devoted wife to her late husband, Kenneth Schroeder.
Dee Dee was a woman of resilience, generosity and independence. Also, deeply kind and empathetic, she always found the good in people. Like a Barbra Walters interview, she would be able to learn a person's life story in a matter of minutes. Eating out at local establishments with friends and family was a regular occurrence and joy. From a young age she had an eye for fashion, always dressed to "the nines" with her hair, nails and makeup to match. Decorating her home for every season was one of her deepest passions. She and her close friends, Theresa and Lola were dubbed "the Golden Girls" as they were always going out and having fun. They especially loved their meet ups after church on Sunday morning at Stewarts in Greenwich. There they would enjoy coffee and chat, catching up with old friends and making new ones.
Dee Dee also loved to travel, she and her husband, Ken, spent many years driving back and forth to Daytona Beach, Fla.. Her cockateel, Ponce, who will miss her greatly, was named after Ponce Inlet, Fla., where they had a home. She loved the ocean, the sunshine, the pool, and walking on the beach. In later years, Dee Dee enjoyed traveling to the coast of Maine with her daughter and granddaughter, the "three generations".
As a devoted mother and homemaker, she raised her only daughter, Jennifer. Additionally, Dee Dee obtained a realty license and worked for several years with Boyajian Realty in Watervliet, N.Y. Later in life she volunteered for Community Hospice, she felt it was a privilege to provide peace and comfort for people nearing the end of their lives. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern star and a proud member of the United Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, N.Y.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, reflected in the lives of those she touched.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jennifer and her husband Cliff DeCarlo of Easton; brother, Tom Eldredge and his wife Cyrese of Easton; grandchildren, Lexie DeCarlo of Cambridge, and Noah DeCarlo of Greenfield Center. Several nieces, a great nephew, cousins and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Eldredge, her mother, Dorothy Eldredge, her stepmother Dorothy "Dottie" Eldridge and her husband, Kenneth Schroeder.
Please join us to honor and celebrate Dee Dee's life. Her visitation will be held at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main Street, Greenwich, N.Y., 12834, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
