Frank Grippe Obituary

Frank R. Grippe

April 4, 1933 - May 13, 2025

CORINTH, N.Y. – It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Frank R. Grippe. He died peacefully in the care of hospice with his family at his side on May 13, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.

He is survived by his adored wife, Caroline, with whom he had recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary; his two children, Pat and Roger and their spouses, Michael and Karen; his brothers, Bob and Jim; his grandchildren, Bart, Amanda, and Juliana; and two great-granddaughters, Maya and Kayla. He was predeceased by his brother, Ron and his granddaughter, Alexa. He deeply cherished them all.

Frank was born in Goshen, N.Y. on April 4, 1933 to Frank C. Grippe and Hilda Grippe. He attended Oswego State Teachers College, where he met and married his wife Caroline in 1954. After graduating, he accepted a position teaching Industrial Arts in the Corinth Central School District, where both he and his wife served as teachers until their respective retirements.

A fair-minded man of intense curiosity, deep intelligence, irrepressible humor, and profound patience, he taught and cared for generations of shop students, imparting to them practical skills, a love of working with their hands, an appreciation for a job well done, and a belief in themselves as learners and doers. He earned a master's degree in counseling from Siena College in 1965 but decided to bring his newly minted skills to his classroom rather than to leave his beloved students to pursue another career path.

Frank was a lifelong learner himself and lived a life full of adventures both great and small. He took immense joy in spending time with family and friends, camping and traveling, serving on the ski patrol at Hickory Hill in Warrensburg, teaching scuba diving at the YMCA in Saratoga Springs, flying and repairing light aircraft, taking on a myriad of building and renovation projects in the area, and for many years spending winters in Florida and the rest of the year in the home that he built in Corinth.

His energy was enormous, his interest in others was genuine, his spirit was indomitable, and his kindness, humanity, and generosity were legendary. Frank was truly one of a kind, and the family hopes that those whose lives he touched will pay forward the many gifts that they received from this amazing man.

Visiting hours with the family will be held at the Densmore Funeral Home in Corinth, N.Y. on Monday, May 19, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Frank's family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Drs. Joseph Mihindu and Vincent Cooper, to the extraordinary staff at the Rubin Dialysis Clinic of Saratoga Springs, to the caregivers at the Saratoga Hospital, and to the entire Community Hospice team and staff at The Wesley Community, all of whom cared for Frank with exquisite care and exceptional kindness.

I am Frank and Carrie's son-in-law, through my brother Michael. I did not know him well, but over the years, we had a few conversations during family get-togethers. Mostly, I know how much he taught Mike as they worked together on Mike's and Pat's Watertown, MA home. Indeed, Frank had all the traits in his obituary. My favorites of his sayings were, "Any day that your roofing crew finishes their day with no injuries is a good day." "When you mess up, stop, cool down, then return to your task with renewed patience." There were many others, but more important was that I - not the most patient one on projects - thought of them on just about every task I took on. AND he and Carrie raised a wonderful family. It doesn't get better than that. I will remember Frank fondly the rest of my life.

Our condolences to the family of Frank, a friend, neighbor, and most of all a shop teacher.... His dedication to his students and those around him showed that he was a great person with many talents. I enjoyed stopping by and talking with him after school. May he R. I. P.

My sincere condolences to his family. He was a wonderful person and teacher. With his encouragement, I was the first girl to be in his shop class.
