Fred Giardinello Obituary

Fred Giardinello, 95, of Ridgefield, Ct passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, November 6.

Fred was born on October 4, 1930 in NYC to Sicilian immigrants, Carmella and Paul Giardinello. The family moved to Queens and Fred would joyfully recount his childhood days playing stickball in the streets and schoolyards of Woodside.

He attended Grover Cleveland High School and It was there he met the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Peters.

He entered NYU at the age of 16 and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Pat and Fred were married in 1951 and he was soon drafted into the Army. In 1952, Fred was sent to Korea where he served for a year, receiving accolades from his commanding officer who recounted Fred's exemplary leadership and "cool-under-fire" composure during a harrowing mine-clearing operation.

Once home, Pat and Fred raised 4 children, Freddy, Kathy, Paul and Elaine. Fred had a long and successful career as an executive in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. In his final stint as a CEO, he oversaw the growth of a small catheter manufacturer in Glens Falls, NY into a major supplier of cutting-edge endotracheal tubes.

A savvy investor, Fred retired at 55 which allowed him to spend more time with his first love, Pat, which he did until her passing in 2017. His other love was tennis, at which he excelled as a player and was an ardent fan of the game. He and Pat were regulars at the U.S Open in NYC each year.

He was also a lifelong NY Giants fan, not only watching and taping each game for later analysis, but attending pre-season training camps and working diligently to identify possible draft picks. Each April he would inform his family that he would be "unavailable" for socializing and even phone calls during the Thursday through Saturday NFL draft.

He is survived by his three children, Paul, Kathy and Elaine, his two son-in-laws, Michael Ruggeri and John O'Brien, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, all of whom he was immensely proud of.

Fred was so Amazing and Kind! He was our CEO at Mallinckrodt Anesthesia Products in Argyle, NY and loved by everyone! I have many great memories from those days back in the early to late 1980´s including playing basketball and softball with Fred - he was quite a competitor and always played with the intensity of a fine-tuned high school athlete. Pat came to all our company functions and she too was so loved! My heart goes out to Fred´s and Pat´s loved ones. I will always be grateful for Fred and I´m so sorry for his family´s loss. Thank-you for sharing your beloved Dad with all of us who are so fortunate to call him friend

I met Fred through his wife,Pat while working at TV Data. Pat hosted a few of us at her home many times and gracious Fred would only pop in to say hello, never wanting to disrupt. Often he would be heading over to the Y for a game of handball or something. Pat would sing his praises of his athletic abilities.

I did meet Freddy once and also Kathy, Elaine and Paul. Fred and Pat would both suggest when I was in NYC to be sure and eat their daughter´s family restaurant.

Being a life long resident of Glens Falls from a large family, I can attest Fred was highly respected and n the Medical Device industry which Glens Falls and our surrounding area has/had a strong presence in.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. Your dad and mom were extraordinary people, so gracious and humble.

I had the pleasure of meeting Fred on the pickleball courts in Queensbury when he was in his mid-eighties. He was athletic, competitive and a true gentleman. I was delighted to subsequently run into him on the pickleball courts at Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head. WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN.
