George Kelly Obituary
August 27, 1929 - October 22, 2025
George S. Kelly, 96, of Greenwich, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Slate Valley Nursing Center, in Granville, NY.
He was born August 27, 1929, on the Kelly Family Farm in Halcottsville, Delaware County, NY, to the late Nelson and Hazel Kelly.
George was a graduate of Roxbury Central School and attended Cornell University School of Agriculture. He married Joyce Ingles and worked on the family farm as a milk tester.
In 1955, the family moved to Greenwich, NY, where he worked for NYABC and Eastern A.I. as an Artificial Inseminator for farms in the Greenwich and surrounding areas. George was proud to have bred over 100,000 cows throughout his career.
He enjoyed volunteering for many organizations, including serving as Cub Scout leader, member of Washington County Fair Board, FFA, and Centenary United Methodist Church where he served on many committees. He enjoyed bowling, delivering the Post Star newspaper with his grandsons and became a square dance caller. He and Joyce traveled to many dances in the area. He enjoyed annual family camping trips with the highlight being a two-week trip to Colorado, trips to Maine, Nova Scotia, Montreal Expo, and NY World's Fair.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joyce Ingles Kelly in 2011; his sister, Annette Iskra; his brother, Larry, and his son John Kelly in 2000.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Hewitt of Ashaway, RI; sons Terry Kelly of Greenwich, Richard Kelly of Latham, and Tim (Nancy) Kelly of Fountain Inn SC; daughter-in-law Elaine Kelly of Greenwich; sister-in-law Alice Kelly of Norwich, NY; grandchildren Chris (Stephanie), Eric (Kendra), Brad (Kathleen) Kelly, Claire (Connor) Pratt, Thomas (Sierra) Kelly, and Amy (Nicholas) Brown; great-grandchildren Caroline, Rogan, Shea, Nora, Grady, Wrenley, Alaiya Kelly and Aidan, Dubhlainn and Conlan Brown and special friend Char Killam of Saratoga.
A Memorial Service will be held in the spring with burial in the Greenwich Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church, 1 Gray Ave, Greenwich, NY, 12834.
