James Flynn Obituary
James (Jim) Stephen Flynn
September 7, 1947 - January 12, 2025
We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved James (Jim) Stephen Flynn on Sunday, January 12, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on September 7, 1947 in Coxsackie, NY, the son of Francis Flynn and Margaret Taylor.
Jim graduated from Stillwater High School and began his lifelong career working for Niagara Mohawk/National Grid Power Company alongside some of his best friends for 34 years where he found the love of his life, Carolyn Ernst.
Carolyn and Jim enjoyed 38 years of love, adventures, and making wonderful memories together that will last forever.
Jim could often be found fishing the beautiful pristine waters of Lake Ontario or the Goodnow Flow in Newcomb, NY where he enjoyed his beloved camp. He spent countless hours boating on the calm waters trying to catch the elusive trout. He found great peace sitting by a campfire, watching sunsets, sunrises, sipping coffee on the deck, watching the eagles soar, listening to the loons call, and napping in his favorite rocking chair. He enjoyed playing card games, four-wheeling, and rolling slowly around the lake looking for wildlife. Newcomb camp was a very special place for Jim and his family. The memories made will forever be cherished and new ones will be created in his honor.
Once the cold weather started to blow in, Jim anxiously awaited for the day to start their trek south to Florida, where he and Carolyn enjoyed many years in the sunshine state, residing in Polk City, FL. Jim loved the warm weather, sunshine, driving his custom Model T golf cart, and visiting with their friends.
Jim had a special knack for woodworking. He created many beautiful pieces of wood furniture, trinket boxes, and jewelry boxes with soothing melodies that always had a special meaning. He also had a love for a good Ford truck and a Model T. He spent many weekends traveling with their Model T club showing off his craft and skill of remodeling them.
Jim loved his family and friends, but most of all he especially loved his grandchildren. They were the joy of his life. "Papa Jim" had a special connection with each one of them. He spent countless hours following them in sports and traveling to visit them. He enjoyed traveling and spent a lot of time adventuring all over the country with Carolyn and their family. At the age of 71, Jim stunned a crowd of adventurous cliff jumpers when he decided to climb up the rocks and jumped off a huge cliff in Hawaii, landing safely in the blue ocean below. The crowd even cheered and bystanders clapped!
Jim was predeceased by his mother, Margaret; father, Francis; sister, Linda (Flynn) Kufro; and brother, Dan Flynn.
Left to cherish his memory are: loving and devoted wife, Carloyn Flynn; sister, Betty Ann Ziglor (Jim); his children, Julie Flynn, Scott McKenna (Kim), Shawn McKenna (Keri); and his grandchildren, Hunter & Tanner McKenna, Holden, Zelda, Soren & Esme (Flynn)Walsh, Emily Thiel; his four-legged best friends Bailey and Kody, as well as several nieces, cousins, extended family and many friends.
