John T. Hafner

QUEENSBURY – John T. Hafner, 84, of Queensbury, passed away Saturday morning, April 12, 2025. He died peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side.

Born on December 3, 1940, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Frank J. Hafner Sr. and Rose C. Hafner (nee Rief). John grew up in Glendale, Queens where he formed life-long friendships. He was a graduate of Power Memorial Academy (PMA) in Manhattan where he excelled at many sports, most notably basketball. After graduating in 1958, he attended NYU School of Continuing Education and joined the Army National Guard (1963-69), obtaining the rank of sergeant. In 1964, he married Janet, his childhood sweetheart and began a life of many happy years together.

John began his career as a COBOL programmer in the burgeoning computer industry. He rose to the rank of Vice President of Information Technology for the Home Insurance Company and later Vice President of Client Services for the Risk Enterprise Management Corporation. John retired in 2001 and in 2003 relocated to Queensbury from Farmingdale, NY.

An avid golfer, John was a member of the Hiland Park Country Club, where he enjoyed the company of his many friends as much as the game itself.

John will be missed by his loving family, his wife of 60 years, Janet (nee Weismandel); son, Mark; two brothers, Raymond and Frank, and many friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 50 Mohican St. in Lake George, NY on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Pine View Cemetery, 21 Quaker Rd in Queensbury, NY.
