John Hartpence Obituary

John S Hartpence (Jack) passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in Ocala Florida. Jack was born on March 19, 1948, the son of John and Mildred Hartpence. He attended High School in Hudson Falls, New York and graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1970. While at Plattsburgh he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dot) Doyle, who he married in 1970. He had two wonderful sons, John (Laura) and Geoffrey (Courtney) and his cherished grandchildren, Ben, Kiera, Lily, Emma, and Jack.

Jack first worked at Aetna and then at Travelers Insurance Company as a Personal Account Representative. He also served in the Army National Guard.

Jack was a true gentleman with a kind soul and a great sense of humor. His greatest joy came from being with his family. He loved playing all kinds of sports in the backyard with his sons as they were growing up and continued the same with his grandchildren. Jack and Ben went at it on the basketball court, and he was Kiera's biggest cheerleader at her volleyball games throughout high school and college. He loved playing board games with Lily and Emma and teasing and playing with his namesake Jack.

Jack loved spending time on his grandfather's farm in Jay, New York during his childhood, as well as traveling, golf, fly fishing, visiting national parks in the west and going to his favorite place on earth, Yellowstone National Park. He especially cherished his last visit there two years ago with his sons.

Jack was predeceased by his parents and several aunts and uncles, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his sons John (Laura) Hartpence and Geoffrey (Courtney) Hartpence, his grandchildren Ben Keppler, Kiera, Lily, Emma and Jack Hartpence. As well as his siblings, Mary Gordon, Jim Hartpence, Tim (Mary) Hartpence and Sue (Jeff) Curren. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins. A celebration of life will be held in his community of Summerglen in Ocala, Florida and in Hudson Falls, NY in the late spring. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to Yellowstone Forever, PO Box 1857, Bozeman, MT 59771–1857 or [email protected].
