John Lange Obituary

John William Lange

December 25, 1965 - May 4, 2025

ATHOL, N.Y. - John William Lange, 59, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 25, 1965, in Bethpage, N.Y. to Barry L. Lange, Sr. and Patricia (Schoales) Lange.

John was a very loving son, brother, and uncle, and a friend to many. He was especially caring towards the elderly. Not only did he help them with many tasks, John took the time to chat and visit. He also enjoyed playing cards and games with his Grandma, Dorothy Schoales, and held a special place in his heart for his Foxy Grandma, Ursula Taylor.

John had a lot of friends and was the life of the party. His oldest childhood friends were Mike and Joe Clifford and Mikey Preston. John loved nature and the outdoors. Some of his favorite hobbies and interests included camping, fishing, boating, skiing, hockey and cooking. He also did some acting and singing.

John graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1984. Shortly after, he joined the Navy and became a helicopter search and rescue swimmer. Later he moved back home to be closer to his family and friends and became a truck driver for WalMart.

John was predeceased by his father, Barry L. Lange, Sr.; stepfather, Eben T. Lange; his four grandparents; uncle, Ward Lange; and his beloved aunts, Mary Lou and Susie.

John leaves behind his mother, Patricia (Schoales) Lange; sister, Christine Lange Wiegert; brother, Barry L. Lange, Jr. (Karen); nieces and nephews, Michele, Kimberly, Barry III, Stephanie, Tricia, and Deandré; uncles, Michael (Richie) and Timmy (Lucille); also his many cousins who he loved very much; and his dog, Millie.

Visitation will take place Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 1 to 3 p.m., at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A celebration of life will follow at the Glens Falls VFW, 30 Cooper Street, from 4 to 8 p.m. All family and friends are invited.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Amanda's House for providing housing and hospitality to John's mother and sister during their last few weeks with John.

If you wish, you may make a donation in John's name to Amanda's House, c/o Glens Falls Hospital Foundation, 126 South St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

John was a special person who always made you laugh and we had great times together which many of us know . Some of the fishing trips we went on were some of the best times of my life. Growing up in the neighborhood with all the great friends and times that we had together will always be a part of my fondest memories. John will be sorely missed and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones.

While I did not know this Sailor, I have known and served with a number of "SAR" folks, talented, professional, skilled, and always ready to serve. Probably sailed some of the same waters as you during your tour. Thank you for your service you Cold War Warrior. You are relieved. Wishing you Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Such sad news. I don't think I have seen Johnc in over 30 years. But that picture of him brings back so many memories of a sweet, funny, and smart guy I knew high school. Now I wish I had reached out to him at some point. Rest in peace Langer
