Lawrence Germain Obituary

Lawrence William Germain

October 22, 1939 - November 29, 2024

THURMAM - Lawrence William Germain, born on October 22, 1939, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, cherished by all who knew him.

If you every met Larry, you never forgot him. He was a quiet man, but when with friends and family the conversations were endless and fun ensued. He brought up his children with love in the home he built and as members of First Baptist Church in Thurman, N.Y. He was a devoted member of the church, dedicating countless hours to its construction projects. He was almost never busy and built projects for his family and friends. His faith and commitment to his family, friends and community were unwavering.

He shared his love for travel with his late wife, June, embarking on numerous cruises and cross-country trips in their camper visiting family and friends. They enjoyed many family gatherings at the holidays and in the summer and would also host church family gatherings. Eventually they settled the camper in Florida for the winters. While there they enjoyed all of their new friends. Larry performed in many plays and in singing groups at his winter home and enjoyed visits from their children and their friends. Together, they also participated in a once-in-a lifetime mission trip to Africa, where they helped build a school and educate the residents.

Once of Lawrence's greatest passions was making maple syrup. He took great pride in crafting his own sugar shack from wood he milled himself, delighting in sharing his syrup with family and friends. All that enjoyed that treat now miss it!

In his later years, he rekindled a high school friendship with Carol Kenyon Baker, to whom he married on May 23, 2020. They enjoyed their time together in South Carolina, savoring Carol's homemade meals. Larry attended Carol's church in Camden, S.C. and enjoyed fellowship with his Sunday school friends there. He especially loved singing hymns and country songs. They made many trips to see Carol's son Jeff, staying in his "Beehive Cabin's".

In his final months, Lawrence was lovingly cared for by his son, John, who was a constant presence. They shared many cherished moments, including trips to Stewart's Shops for their favorite shakes. They took many rides through the countryside and visited often with Larry's sister Millie Dibble.

Lawrence's kindness, generosity, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Claud and Mabel (Denton) Germain; his first wife, June Germain; and his siblings, Frank Germain, Gertrude Hill, Ethel Trope, Jimmy Germain, and Jerry Germain; brother-in-law, Bob Dibble. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Susan Isaacs and her daughter, Samantha; as well as his stepchildren, Michael Bailey and his wife, Lisa and Kelly Baker Idrees.

Larry left behind his wife, Carol; and children, John Germain and his wife, Amy, Charlene Woods and her husband, David; step children, Jaynie Manwarren and her husband, Steve, Rob Pinney and his partner, Shyra, and Jeffry Baker. He also leaves behind his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Millie Dibble; brother, Lester Germain and his wife, Betty; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
