Lewis Collins Obituary

GREENWICH * Lewis G. Collins, 85, a resident of Main Street, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at his home.

Born Oct. 23, 1921, in Mechanicville, he was the son of the late Harvey Randall and Jeannette Martin Collins.

Mr. Collins was a graduate of Mechanicville High School and  Syracuse University with a degree in civil engineering.

He was first employed by D.A. Collins Construction Company in Mechanicville and retired from the Fort Miller Company in Easton.

Lewis was a former Trustee of the Village of Greenwich, a former member and past president of the Greenwich Central School Board of Education, a former member of the Greenwich Lion's Club and a life member of the Battenkill Country Club.

During World War II he flew as a navigator and tail gunner on a B24 Liberator with the 454th Bomb Group of the 15th Air Force in Italy.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters, Polly, Edna, Lillian, Louise and Alys; and brothers, Robert, William and Edward.

Survivors include his wife, Catharine Lane Collins of Greenwich; two daughters, Catharine "Keya" Collins of Moscow, Idaho and Candace J. Wight and her husband, Doug, of West Concord, Mass.; one son, Randall "Stony" Collins and his wife, Lynne, of Cambridge; one brother, Donald A. Collins of Saratoga Springs; two granddaughters, Ariel and Iris Collins of Cambridge, and three grandsons, Christopher, Tyler and Colvin Wight of West Concord, Mass.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

The family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 12 Avis Dr., Latham, NY 12110.
