July 24, 1925 - May 11, 2025
WARRENSBURG - Lois Marie York of Warrensburg, NY passed away in the early morning hours of Mother's Day, May 11, 2025 at Wesley Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Lois was born in Millinocket, Maine on July 24, 1925 to the late Elsie Bellwood Oaks and Albert Edgar Walsh. She married her beloved "Herbie", Claud Herbert York on September 7, 1946. He passed on January 8, 1970.
She grew up with our father, and over the years told us many stories of their childhood together. One favorite story was when they crossed the swiftly running Penobscot River at age 14 with Mom on Dad's shoulders. Mom waited for him to get back from WWII having been in the Army Air Corp European Theatre. They were married one year later.
Besides her parents and beloved 'Herbie,' Lois was predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia Underwood (2012) of West Warwick, Rhode Island; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl York (2024) of Warrensburg, NY; and her brothers, Ronald 'Ronnie' York (1992) and Rosco 'Rocky' York Jr. (2009), both of Medway, Maine.
Left to cherish Lois's memory are her children Claudia Petruny of Sarasota, FL, Nathan "Bud" York of Warrensburg, NY, and Dan York of Saratoga, NY; 11 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; 4 sisters Harriet MacKeil of Gorham, ME, Joyce Lompert of Belington, West VA, Joey Stratton of Nalcrest, FL, and Anna McDunnah of East Millinocket, Maine.
She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and had many friends who loved her dearly. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Friends may call on Lois's family on Saturday, July 26, 2025 from Noon to 2pm at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. A graveside service will follow visitation in Warrensburg Cemetery, Hudson Street, Warrensburg, NY. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online condolences and guest book.
