Margot Sturt Obituary

Margot (Meg) Macgibeny Sturt

November 24, 1932 - January 15, 2025

Margot (Meg) Macgibeny Sturt, most recently of Charlotte, N.C., passed peacefully and surrounded by love, in the early morning hours of January 15, 2025. Meg was born and raised in Evanston, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Belle (nee Greenley) Macgibeny.

As a young college graduate of Principia College, Meg moved to New York City, securing an administrative position at NBC in Rockefeller Center. In 1958, Meg was introduced through mutual friends to Jack (Sturt) of New Rochelle, N.Y. Three months later, the couple married in the chapel on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Meg and Jack settled in Pompton Plains, N.J. and started their family. In 1970, they moved with their four young children to Haddonfield, N.J. While Meg was primarily a homemaker during these years, she enjoyed involvement in local politics, she started a career coaching business, and she took advantage of the proximity to Philadelphia to indulge in her longtime love of art, books, shopping, and learning.

Retirement years found Meg and Jack moving north to Lake George, N.Y. to live closer to the beloved family vacation destination. For over 25 years, Meg and Jack enjoyed traveling, boating, and exploring upstate New York and the Adirondack region.

A curious, introspective, and observant lifelong learner, Meg was a talented photographer who exhibited her work in local galleries and regional art shows. She was the family archivist, filling notebooks with photographs and volumes of material from both sides of the family. She had a beautiful singing voice and was well-read and well-traveled. She loved her family, books, words, music, Mary Baker Eddy, London, Sante Fe, Georgia O'Keefe, Rafa Nadal, and Post-it notes.

Meg was "one of a kind" - she modeled an inner strength, resiliency, and a "trust in perfect timing" that exemplified much of her life and in particular, this past year.

She will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Amy Sturt Royal of Charlotte, N.C., Diana Sturt Miller (Bart) of Leawood, Kan., and Paula Sturt Keizler (Bruce) of Santa Ana, Calif.; her eight grandchildren, Natalie Royal Herb (Bobby), Michael Royal, Reece Miller, Griffin Miller, Miranda Miller, Ivy Miller, Jeffrey Keizler and Stella Keizler; two great-grandchildren, Ambrose Herb and Margot Herb; and her much-loved niece, Abigael Macgibeny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; her son, Jeffrey; her brother, Bruce; and a number of cherished, life-long family members and friends.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to those who have shown caring support to Meg, Jack, and the family over the past several years: Donna Slack of Queensbury, N.Y.; Kim's Homecare and staff at The Glen in Queensbury, N.Y.; and the staff at The Laurels and Waltonwood Cotswold in the Charlotte, N.C. area. Thank you to the remarkable care team at The Post at Providence in Charlotte, N.C., our family remains forever grateful for the patient, dignified, and loving care extended to our dear mother this past year. Finally, thank you to the care team at Via Health Partners Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for your compassionate guidance, support, and provision of comfort care these past few months.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in loving memory of both Meg and Jack Sturt to: The Lake George Association (donation information can be found online at www.lakegeorgeassociation.org).

A private family service will be held at Bolton Cemetery along the shores of Lake George in Bolton Landing, N.Y. at a later date.

My mother and Meg were longtime friends in Haddonfield through church. I´ve often thought of Meg over the years. She was always positive and upbeat. My condolences
