Mary Jane (Kent) MacGregor
1933 - 2024
LAKE LUZERNE - Mary Jane (Kent) MacGregor, 90, Lake Luzerne, passed peacefully after a long illness, Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Washington Center Facility in Argyle with family and the center's loving and caring staff at her bedside.
Mom was born in Park Ridge, NJ in 1933, the first of seven to John and Theodora Kent, the finest parents a family could ask for. Mom's family moved in 1941 to a large Victorian home in Ridgewood, NJ with plenty of room for her extended family. Her early childhood was happy but sometimes difficult as she spent much of her time helping tend to her siblings during WWII.
In 1946 the family purchased a large farmstead in Shushan, NY and she and her family spent many warm summer days fishing and swimming in the Battenkill River as well as square dancing and roller skating on those memorable summer breaks. As a side note, Mom could do a perfect handstand at the snap of a finger without the slightest wobble.
Mom also loved music and played the piano as well as the glockenspiel in the high school band. Mom graduated Ridgewood High School and Cornell University where she earned her degree in Biology and went to work for Pfizer Corporation for several years before meeting and marrying her husband and starting a family of her own.
She moved to Lake Luzerne, NY in 1995 and held several jobs including Glens Fall National Bank and H&R Block. She also volunteered at the Hyde Museum and Serendipity Thrift Shop, which she truly enjoyed.
Mom also enjoyed gardening for which she had NO green thumb, quilting with her good friends where laughter, gossip and giggling always hindered the work to be done. She was fortunate enough to see the sights in all 50 states and traveled abroad numerous times, once getting sick on a cruise ship, and being airlifted over Greece (we always joked and said, how many of your friends ever had a tour of Greece in a helicopter?) Mom had a pretty darn good life with many close friends.
Mary is survived by her sons: Richard, Jr. (Karen), Shushan NY, Scott, Lake Luzerne; and daughter, Alison of PA; her grandchildren: Alex and Jackie; her sisters: Gail Turi and Theodora Darling; sister-in-law, Linda Kent; and many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, John and Theodora, her husband, Richard, Sr., her youngest son, Bruce and all four of her brothers: Philip, Joseph, John, and Jerome.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful caring staff at Glens Falls Hospital Tower 3, Warren Co. Health Care and Washington Center as well as our home aides, Kelly, Michele, Sheena, and Casey.
Mary (Mom) will be missed by the many who were blessed with knowing her.

Mary was the kindest neighbor and a dear friend to my family.
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

We roomed together in college and remained friends for 72 years. We had wonderful times in our later years when we joined other college friends in Maine, Charleston, New Orleans, Newport, RI and Kauai Island. I´ll miss you.
