Nicholas J. DeSanctis
GLENS FALLS - Nicholas J. DeSanctis passed away on April 2, 2021 at the age of 28.
He is survived by his loving father, Mark J. DeSanctis; Tammy; his three siblings: Anthony, Olivia and Joseph; and his longtime girlfriend Ciara Hicks.
It is believed that if you die on Good Friday you will be permitted straight into Heaven, no questions asked. I know Nick is in Heaven with his beloved Grandparents and Uncle Chris.
Looking back on his life one of my most memorable moments with Nick was as a 5th Grader when he gave a speech (it was the best speech of the evening) for the DARE program mentored by Officer Jim McCabe. As many of us know the DARE Program, dared children to stay away from drugs, unfortunately, Nick was unable to heed his own advice.
Nicholas had a lifelong addiction to Opioids, a disease that has plagued our society and destroyed many families in our community. Until we find a solution to this problem, my only advice to parents is do Anything and Everything to stand between drugs and your children. Never quit, never lose hope and keep trying, there are community outreach programs that are available to help; and I want to thank all the organizations that tried to help us.
I know I will miss my son everyday for the rest of my life, but I am comforted to know he is in God's Hands and is finally at peace with himself.
Through all the challenges, I will always remember my son, as the innocent little boy who played on the Moreau Family Soccer League.
Services will be held privately for the family. Online condolences are welcomed through NewComerAlbany.com.

You don´t know me, however I just wanted to say thank for making the reason for your loss public.
I too have a son that has been battling addiction his entire adult life and it´s scary and hard on the family.
I wish more people would reach out and be more honest about what is happening in their families so others can really see how bad it is.
Again ty for sharing you story and your loss.
I am truly very sorry for the loss of your son, truly. RIP young man

I wanted to send you something heartfelt, you don't know me, so I don't know what words - if any - to write that you would find comfort in.
I will say, that I am grateful for you, and the bravery it took to post this photo of your son with his obituary. As a 52 YO father of 5 children between 10 and 20 YO, I try to think of ways to reinforce and educate them about the dangers of drugs and the "new" world they live in.
I sent them all a link to Nick's Post Star site. I told them that their mother and I love them dearly and reinforced the need for discussion about this topic. But I also asked them to look at your beautiful son, and to remember the same types of photos that they are in, that their friends are in, and the fact that probability states that they could lose friends, or themselves, to addiction. I want to scare them, but I entreated them to really look at the photo of that young boy and understand that he is no longer here because of drugs - and to understand that we, as their parents,, look at photos every day around our home that are *exactly the same* as Nick's, and that we don't not ever want to look at them, or share them, and feel the loss that you are feeling now.
God bless you for your strength throughout his life, the love you showed him, and the bravery you showed in sharing that photo of him.
May the Lord keep you and yours.
Don
