Noel Casabonne

CHESTERTOWN - Noel Casabonne of Chestertown, N.Y., died peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old.

Born in Cohoes, N.Y., he was the son of the late Rhea and Germain Casabonne. Noel graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy, N.Y. (Class of 1954) and received a Bachelor's degree in Human Services from Skidmore College's University Without Walls. He began his career as a county probation officer for Rensselaer County. He then joined his brother Larry, as a partner and Vice President of Casabonne Brothers, Inc. General Building Contractors in Troy, N.Y. for 30 years. After his retirement, he worked as a job coach for Northeast Career Planning.

While at Catholic Central, Noel, also known as "Nookie," was popular and was a talented pitcher for the baseball team and center for the Crusaders basketball team. He was inducted into the Catholic Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame in June 2005.

Volunteering was a very important aspect of Noel's life. He volunteered at Joseph's House & Shelter in Troy, N.Y. and after moving to Chestertown, he became a volunteer at North Country Outreach Center in North Creek and Johnsburg, as well as for the Chestertown Food Pantry. In addition, Noel delivered Meals on Wheels in Chestertown for many years. Noel was also a Wednesday volunteer at Four Winds in Saratoga for 30 years. He was gifted with playing the piano by ear and was known as "the piano man" at Four Winds, where he led lively and entertaining musical evenings for the patients and staff.

Committed to the practice of Yoga, Noel attended classes for many years and diligently started each day with his Yoga routine. He enjoyed reading books, especially about science and the universe. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was known for his daily walks, cross-country skiing and kayaking at his home on Loon Lake. Noel thoroughly enjoyed greeting neighbors from his dock, always having his binoculars at hand, and keeping the beach raked to perfection.

Noel and his wife, Patty, were fortunate to be able to take numerous trips abroad. An especially important trip was to visit relatives in the South of France. More than anything, Noel loved his family, especially enjoying his grandchildren. Family gatherings at their home on Loon Lake, often with the fireplace blazing, have become wonderful lasting memories for all. Noel touched the lives of so many with his open heart, quick wit and welcoming spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patricia (Marpe) Casabonne; sons, Timothy (Jennifer Orton) Casabonne, Steven (Kelly Skoglund) Casabonne, Andrew (Mary Martialay) Casabonne and daughter Beth (Bill) Campana; six grandchildren, Ani Casabonne, Marc Casabonne, Kyle Casabonne, Matthew Campana, Claire Campana and Ruth Casabonne; sisters, Suzanne Bermas and Kathy (Edward) Spain;

sisters-in-law, Lauren (Stan) Harvey and Catherine Casabonne. Noel is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and special friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Peter, Jerry and Larry Casabonne.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the excellent staff in the ICU and Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital. We are so very grateful for the care and loving kindness you showed to Noel and his family.
