Robert James Bergman
August 26, 1947 - September 13, 2025
FORT EDWARD, NY – On Saturday, September 13, 2025 @ 1:30 PM, Robert James Bergman of 15 Oak street in Fort Edward, NY passed away. He passed away peacefully at his home; in his recliner with relatively little discomfort alongside his wife and youngest son Lance.
Born on August 26th, 1947, in Glens Falls, Robert (Bob) was the son of the late William and Norma (Haas) Bergman. He graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1965. In high school he enjoyed football, baseball and basketball. After high school he attended Colorado State University. In December of 1969, he married his wife Linda and settled back home in Fort Edward. Bob then began a life of building. Over his life, he built dozens of homes and kitchens locally. His skill for building transformed into a commercial cabinet business in 1982 that all his boys worked at. The cabinet business did very well under Bob's guidance and is still in business today. Bob's tremendous work ethic and determination served him well and carried him through life.
Outside of work, Bob was always busy serving his family. Boy Scout troopmaster, Little League coach, Trustee at First Baptist Church in Hudson Falls, were just some of the positions that he filled over the years. Other activities that Bob enjoyed throughout his life include: indoor target shooting, skeet shooting, coaching Legion baseball, umpiring baseball, bowling, bird watching and a range of activities and work having to do with animals. Bob donated countless dollars, energy and time to the local SPCA and other animal related organizations.
Bob was a mountain of a man in his day. He had an unforgettable presence wherever he was. Anyone that knew him has a story about his physical strength particularly his trademark handshake. As big as he was, inside his heart was bigger. He was a kind and generous man that kept himself busy doing projects with family and friends. He had a tremendous range of skills that he had acquired over his lifetime and took great pride in his work. He was a family man and spent his life providing for his wife and three boys. Bob leaves behind a legacy of hard work and character that will live forever in his three sons that he was very proud of. He is irreplaceable, deeply loved and we'll forever remember the man he was.
Most importantly, Bob believed that Jesus Christ was/is God and that Jesus died on the cross to save all that do believe in Him. We thank the Lord that dad believed this. Because of that ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made, dad is in heaven now; and as a result of this, we who are left behind here on earth feel a sense of relief and tremendous gratitude.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother James Dewitt. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda K. (Wilson) Bergman of Fort Edward; his son Erik Bergman of South Glens Falls, son William Bergman of Lake George, son Lance Bergman of Hudson Falls and his grandchildren; (Erik) Kalista, Mitchell, Brady and Jack; (Will) Tyler, Angelo, Adrian and Mia; (Lance) Carson and Jackson. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Grant of Montana and Nancy Dewitt of Oregon
