Robert McCaffrey Obituary

Robert J. McCaffrey, a long-time resident of Corinth, died Wednesday, November 5, 2025. He died peacefully and was surrounded by family in Burnet, Texas.

Robert, known as Bob by most people, was originally from Long Island, New York and moved upstate after serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. He found employment at Finch Pryne Paper Mill in Glens Falls. He and his first wife, Linda, had a daughter, Coleen, before her untimely death from cancer.

Years later a co-worker introduced Bob to Cecelia "Lee" Hurley, who was also employed at Finch Pryne and resident of Corinth. The two began dating and eventually married. They shared their lives together for the next 36 years. During those years Bob selflessly helped Lee's children, his nephews and nieces and grandchildren. To the family he was simply Grandpa. He remained the family patriarch following the death of his second wife Lee, in 2015.

Bob enjoyed going out to dinner and for drinks with his friends and family. He also was an avid movie buff. His favorite passion was traveling and spending time at the beach with his family. It became an annual event everyone looked forward to.

Bob survived all of his seven siblings, two wives and most of his family members. He leaves behind five children; Cathy Carpenter, John Hurley, Patrick Hurley, Coleen Matthews and James Hurley, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Bob will be missed. However, having lived to 96 he has left us with indelible memories. There will be no services in New York. There will be a small service held in Burnet, Texas for family members only.
