Ronnie Perdue Obituary

Ronnie T. Perdue

June 24, 1939 - October 6, 2025

Captain (Ret.) Ronnie T. Perdue, 86, of Salem, Virginia, peacefully went to be with his Jesus on Monday, October 6, 2025, while surrounded by his family. Born June 24, 1939, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Silas Giles and Eneth Webb Perdue, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Andre Perdue and a sister-in-law, Carol Perdue.

Ronnie was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served two years in active duty and six years in the reserves. He served as a fireman for thirty years with the City of Salem Fire Department, beginning in 1966, until his retirement as their Captain in 1996. Ronnie loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing; in the years following his retirement, he was known for his farming and for driving his tractor. Above all, he loved his family and friends.

Those remaining to cherish Ronnie's memory are his loving wife, Denise Perdue; son, Michael T. Perdue and his wife Stephanie; grandson, Cody Perdue; granddaughter, Whitney Perdue; step-son, Jason Butler; sister, Valorie Edair Ferguson and her husband, Rick; brother, Kerry Perdue; sister-in-law, Tommie Ann Perdue; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome friends on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home and Crematory, Salem. Funeral services with firefighter honors will be conducted on Friday, October 10, 2025, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Barry Fitzgerald officiating. Interment with military honors will be conducted at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park immediately following the chapel service.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Lynn Boynton-Cassell for her care, support and service and to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially nurses, Cherish and Lottie, for their compassionate care and kindness to Ronnie and their family.

While flowers are welcome, memorial donations may also be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Ronnie. We have been friends since high school, and even though we would go thru times of not seeing each other, whenever we did run into each other, it was always a time that we would laugh and reminisce about the old days. Ronnie will be missed by many people, as he never met a stranger. RIP Ronnie, you were a hard worker and brought joy to a lot of people!
