Shirley Helene Sipowicz
June 28, 1930 - June 9, 2025
HUDSON FALLS - Shirley Helene Sipowicz, 94, of 3 Warren Street, Hudson Falls, N.Y., passed away on June 9, 2025, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born on June 28, 1930, on Quarry Crossing in Queensbury, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leona and Harry Russell. She attended Hudson Falls High School.
On June 19, 1949, she married Eddie Sipowicz, her high school sweetheart, at the Church of St. Mary's/St. Paul's in Hudson Falls, and they were together for 60 years until his passing in 2009.
In her early years, Shirley began working on the assembly line at General Electric in Fort Edward, then alongside her husband at their store on the Boulevard, Eddie's Groceries. She continued to support Eddie as he built Eddie's Groceries into the region's premier butcher and grocery shop.
Throughout her long life, Shirley was the ultimate homebody, living in the house Eddie built in the 1950s until her final days. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of gardening and watching the birds in her backyard. During the warmer months, you could always find Shirley sitting on the porch socializing as her grandkids played in the pool. Her home at 3 Warren Street was a haven for all of us. She loved decorating for the holidays (Halloween was a favorite; she always dressed in costume!) and having cookouts in the backyard around the pool (the more the merrier). Hosting her family on Christmas Day was always a special tradition.
Shirley loved dogs and raised many throughout her life, with her favorite chihuahua, Gracie, having predeceased her last year. She was always happy to look after other dogs in the family.
Her generosity was unparalleled. Whether she was opening her home to family and friends in need, or spoiling grandkids with birthday gifts, she always enjoyed providing for her family.
From birthday parties to weddings, you could always find Shirley at a table conversing with friends. She never minced words and was always direct. She stayed sharp and could always be relied upon to recount a family story from years past. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by her cherished daughter, JoAnn Loiselle, who passed away in August of 2023; her sister, Margie Hughes; and her brothers, Bobby Russell, Leo Russell, and Harry Russell.
Survivors include her son, Bernard Sipowicz, and his wife, Dawna; as well as her son-in-law, Claude Loiselle. Shirley had nine grandchildren: Jody Crocitto (Vinnie), Jaime Hart, Nicole Sipowicz (Randi), John Sipowicz (Eleana), Ray Sipowicz, Brenleigh Oswanski (Zachary), Raelyn Roberson (Michael), Bron Loiselle (Samantha), and Midge Loiselle.
Eleven great-grandchildren: Mikayla Sipowicz (Chris), Vinnie Crocitto (Toni), Nicolas Crocitto, Sydney Hart, Wyatt Sipowicz, Miles Sipowicz, Townes Sipowicz, Dylan Sipowicz, Maddie Oswanski, Lucas Oswanski, and Jonas Roberson. Two great-great-grandchildren: Francesca and Vincent Crocitto IV.
