Thomas Kasper Obituary

Thomas Kasper

July 8, 1943 - August 28, 2024

The family of Thomas Kasper is saddened to announce Tom's sudden death unexpectedly at his home on August 28, 2024. Tom was 81 years of age, born on July 8, 1943 in Wilkes Barre, PA to the late John S. Kasper and Jennie M. Kasper. He received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Wilkes University in Wilkes Barre, PA in 1965.

After graduation he took employment in Albany, NY and spent most of his career as an Actuary and Systems Analyst for the State of New York.

Tom loved his parents very much. When needed, Tom bought a house for his parents and paid for a special service so his father could call for a driver at any time and take him wherever he wanted to go. Later, Tom took early retirement to move back to Wilkes Barre to care for his aging parents in the last years of their lives. He lovingly provided everything they needed until their death.

During his time working for New York State, Tom joined a square dance club and learned both square dancing and his favorite, a type of ballroom dancing called round dancing. He participated in this dancing community for the rest of his life. After his parents died, through his participation in dancing, Tom met Sharlene Depold. They shared a long-distance relationship for three years between Pennsylvania and New York. They married in 2015 and have had 11 wonderful years together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharlene Depold; and his brothers: Bob Kasper of GA and Jim Kasper of PA, as well as many family members.

Tom spent much of his life volunteering for many community organizations including as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer for many cold winters, and delivering food for Meals on Wheels. Most of all he loved serving and caring for others. His kindness and generosity was seen throughout his life in many ways. Tom also loved Sudoku and played it several times daily which allowed him to continue his love for math.

A remembrance service will be held at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Calling hours will start at 1:00 p.m. for family and friends visitation with a memorial time for Tom at 2:00 p.m.

To honor Tom's wish in memory of his mother's desire to help battered women, in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Women's Special Needs Closet, c/o The Salvation Army Glens Falls Corp, 37 Broad Street, PO Box 326, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Tom is one of the sweetest men we have ever met. We met Tom and Sharlene at our home at Goodlife RV Resort in Mesa, Az. We quickly became good friends the moment that we shared a table with them at the pool. We throughly enjoyed spending our time with both Tom and Sharlene. We are blessed to have had the time with them both and the memories made. We will miss Tom's infectious smile and his kind and gentle spirit at Goodlife. You're already greatly missed! Happy line and square dancing in heaven Tom. Until we meet again.
Love always,
Tom and Mardi Donahue

Sorry - my statement for Mr. Kasper should have read 1964 rather than 1954.

Sorry to read of Tom's passing. I was a freshman at Wilkes in the Fall of 1954 and he was my guide for processing and everything else that was needed for a new guy. Helpful in everyway. Didn't see much him after that was he was a senior but some folks have a way of providing a positive lasting impression. Tom was one of those folks as I am 78 now and still remember him. Condolences to his family.

Sharlene and the family of Tom. My sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. It was a pleasure having Tom as a customer over many years. Will certainly miss the blueberries that he brought over to shop each year. Tom will be greatly missed. Don Miner, Miners Auto.
