John Gower Obituary
Born to Paul and Flora Gower July 14, 1930, he was a longtime resident of Poteau, graduating from Poteau High in 1948. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen, in 2013. Surviving are sons, Cleo (Hwacha) of California, John Paul (Cindy) of Texas; daughter, Charlotte (Michael) of California; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and sister, Joie Gower Blaylock of California.
John was a person gifted with many abilities. Having an inborn, natural talent for music, he taught himself to play piano and guitar. He and six young men from Poteau formed a band in the late 1940s, "The Sentimental Seven," playing at dances throughout the area. He continued this avid music interest throughout his life, spreading it to his family.
John served his country from 1950-1952 in the Korean War with Company I, 45th Division. He was an electrician at Garner Electric for 20-plus years before relocating to California in 1975, continuing his profession as an industrial electrician until retirement.
John's loving, helpful and kind presence will always be remembered with love and greatly missed.
