I will always remember Andy whom I met through one of my students at The HILL School. Andy came to my Humanities class to share his recollections of being a corpsman on Iwo Gima. It was an extremely moving experience and all opf my students were moved by his remarks. At one point Andy broke down in tears at his recollection. I loved visiting him with Polish music on his radion in the basement, his spitoon, his bag of sand from Iwo, his Japanese rifle, surrounded by mouldings of all sorts which he would formulate into spectacular frames. He was a craftsman and a soldier and real human being. I was so blessed to have time with him. I visited him several times as my busy schedule would permit when he left Pottstown and went to live in a retirement home. We miss you dear Andy!! Henry Doc Bender as you used to call me.
