Daniel Gerber Obituary

The Rev. Daniel H. Gerber, Sr., age 77, of Pottstown, Pa., passed away on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, Pottstown, Pa. He was the husband of Joyce A. (Rhoads) Gerber, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Pastor Dan was born in Tamanend, Pa., to the late Edgar G. Gerber and Margaret M. (Hess) Gerber.
He was a 1954 graduate of Pottstown High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from United Wesleyan College in Allentown, Pa.
Pastor Dan was formerly a foreman at the Stanley G. Flagg Co in Pottstown, the Jerry Fegley Machine Shop in Pottstown and Gallo Machine in Gilbertsville, Pa. While at Fegley's, he entered the pastorate of the Wesleyan Christian Church, Pottstown. He also served as Chaplain of the Ringing Hills Fire Company and as executive secretary of Seyfert Camp Grounds, Gibraltar, Pa. From 1966-71, he taught vo-tech in the Pottstown School District, where he also coached football, basketball, and track. From 1989 to 2002 he was a joint owner of The Gerber's Cup Family Restaurant, "The Cup" in Pottstown.
The Rev. Gerber enjoyed giving of his time, talent and treasure to help others. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, and in earlier years bowling.
In addition to his wife, the Rev. Gerber is survived by two sons, Daniel H. Gerber Jr. and his companion Sandra Slaymaker of Oxford, PA and Jeffrey D. Gerber of Pottstown, Pa., and two daughters, Donna K., wife of Randall Shanley of Pottstown, Pa., and Sandra L., wife of Mark Stitzer Sr. of Wernersville, Pa. One brother, Eugene A. Gerber of Wyomissing, Pa., seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren also survive him.
His parents and one brother, Edgar C. Gerber, preceded him in death.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Wesleyan Christian Church, Buchert and Hilltop roads, Pottstown, Pa. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Harry F. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, Pa.

Dan was a man equipped with a ready smile, a quick handshake and a heart filled with Spirit of Jesus Christ. He will be missed upon this earth but our loss is heaven's gain.
