Daniel Robert Matalavage Sr., 78, of Pottstown, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Pottstown Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Edleman) Matalavage. Born December 5, 1942, in Shenandoah, PA, he was the son of the late John E. Matalavage Sr. and Frances C. (Piaskowski). Dan graduated from Pottstown High School. He started his 38 year career as an apprentice in The Mercury’s pressroom, later becoming press room manager; a position he held until the facility closed in early 2001. Dan enjoyed cruising with close friends, cooking, fishing, and relaxing at his vacation home in the mountains. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed tying his own flies. In later years when he was unable to fish, he enjoyed teaching and sharing tips, technics, and stories with his eldest grandson, Devon Piaquadio. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of 17 years; daughter, Erika Taylor; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and his siblings: Francis of Pottstown, Gerald of Norristown, Mary Alice Bodick of Kimberton, Arlene Mentzer of Texas, Donna Marie Montesano of Boyertown, Cynthia Marnell of Pottstown, and Robert of Pottstown. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Daniel R. Jr. and brother, John E. Matalavage. Services will be held privately by the family at this time.
