Eunice McWharter

EUNICE McWHARTER, 83, OF NORTH COVENTRY Eunice McWharter, 83, of North Coventry, died August 21, 2012 at home with family beside her after a two-year struggle with cancer. Eunice was a very intelligent person with a fine capacity for reasoned judgement about people and many life situations. She was a devoted, supportive and loving mother and wife. Ahead of her time, she facilitated a career for herself with the support of her husband and children. A career which helped make possible college educations for their three children. After finishing her bachelor's degree at Oberlin College, marrying and having children, she returned to college and obtained a master's degree in social work at Bryn Mawr College. She had a 20-year career as a school social worker in the Western Montgomery District, where she facilitated understanding and working together between teachers and families of emotionally disturbed and learning disabled children. Always a skilled and creative knitter, after her retirement in 1992, she created many beautifully patterned sweaters for her family. She also restored vintage clothing and quilts, which went to collectors all over the world. Eunice will always be remembered by those who love her and those who came to know her as a good listener with a very engaging smile and laugh and a positive attitude about life. She leaves her husband, Royce; three children, Karen, David and Ken, and four grandchildren. A memorial is planned for later in the year.
