Frederick W. Messer (September 14, 1924-November 13, 2018) Frederick (Fritz) W. Messer, 94, of Pottstown, widower of Margaret I. (Harbacs) died November 13, 2018 at the Southeastern Veterans Center, Spring City, PA. Born in Kenilworth, he was the son of the late Ernest and Laura (Kienle) Messer. Fritz attended Pottsgrove High School. He served in the U.S. Navy a Gunners Mate on the U.S.S. Wilkes Barre during World War II. He worked at the Century, Doehlers, Neapco and retired from Superior Tube Co. in 1986. Fritz was a member of St. Aloysius Church, a lifetime member of Upper Pottsgrove Fire Company and West End Fire Company. Fritz enjoyed spending time with his family, going to flea markets, and woodworking, but his greatest enjoyment was listening to music, especially country music, and playing his boomba, juice harp and harmonica. Fritz is survived by one son, Ronald Messer (Dori) and two daughters, Geraldine Roussey (Don) and Irene Skarbek. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren who called him Pop-Pop. Fritz is also survived by 7 in-laws and many, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret, son-in-law James Skarbek, brothers, George, Gerald and Clyde Messer, and sisters Gertrude McKanus and Hazel MacDonald and grandson John Mays. Fritz will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta R.C.C., 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA. A viewing will be held prior to the Mass from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at the church. Interment will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SEVC Memorial Fund with a note in in memo in memory of Frederick Messer, and mail to SEVC One Veterans Drive, Spring City, PA 19475.
