John Aston

John T. “Jack” Aston, 86, of Gilbertsville, husband of the late Sara Faith (Hillegass) Aston of 50 years, passed away Sunday December 30, 2018 at his residence. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Jack and Thelma (Bender) Aston. John fought in the Korean War while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifelong member of St. Columbkill Roman Catholic Church in Boyertown, where he served as a lector and a member of the Holy Name Society. John was the founding leader of Boy Scout troop 545, and member of the Boyertown Rotary Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, earning his pilot license and recreating at Lake Wallenpaupack with his family. He spent his career as a registered land surveyor founding Aston Surveyors and Engineers. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Surviving are four sons John Thomas Aston (Natalie), Michael Allen Aston (Sylvia), Stephen Andrew Aston (Denise), and William Joseph Aston; one daughter Teresa Ann (Aston) Haas (Melissa); nine grandchildren Ben, Sarah, Anne, Tim, John IV, Jackie, Keith, Rachel, and Peter; twelve great grandchildren Faith, Hannah, Abby, Mary, John, Nathan, Jane, Grace, Evelyn, Carson, Mason, and Kieran; one brother Robert Aston; one sister Phyllis Hetrick (Richard); and two sisters-in-law Susan Heayn (Michael), and Elizabeth Aston. Along with his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his daughter Janice Elizabeth Aston, sister Ethel Matyasovsky (Michael), brothers James Aston (Elizabeth), and Walter Aston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday January 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Columbkill Church, 200 Indian Spring Rd., Boyertown, PA 19512, with celebrant Fr. Martin Kern. Burial will follow at Keelor’s Union Cemetery, Obelisk. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:00-10:45 AM at the church. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E.
