Joy Konnick Obituary

Joy Allen Konnick (76), known for her tenacity and love of adventure, passed away peacefully in her Pottstown home on January 17, 2024 after a two year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Born December 30, 1947 in Derry Township, she was the first daughter of George and Virginia (Angney) Allen. As a graduate of Pottstown High School (1965), Joy took active involvement in the planning of class reunions for many years. Over her lifetime, Joy worked in various positions within real estate, customer service, and marketing and administration. Joy had a plethora of passions: hiking (accomplished Horse-Shoe Trail in 2015), sailing (with many years spent on the Scrimshaw and working at the Annapolis Boat Show in recent years), the making and of course drinking of wine (grew and sold grapes to Brookmere Winery), baking and decorating cookies (for whoever had a themed birthday party coming up!). She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, orienteering, and spending time with friends and family. In her last years of life, she attended many of her grandchildren's sporting events, enjoyed live music with friends, road-tripped across the country and partied in Vegas! What a "joy" to see her living her best life! Joy is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Dayna and James Lusby of Huntingtown, MD and grandchildren: Brett, Drew and Troy Lusby, as well as Stephanie Konnick of Pottstown, PA, daughter of her predeceased son, Brett Allen Konnick. She is also survived by three siblings: Michele (Allen) Gionet, Marlin Allen, and George Allen Jr. and predeceased by sister, Cardie (Allen) Melnick. Grandchildren remember their "Maw Joy" as a fun, strong, and classy lady always up for an adventure. Celebration of Life will be held on February 3, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Rivet in Pottstown, PA. There will be refreshments and a cash bar; feel free to reflect on a favorite memory with Joy to include in our memory book. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the college funds of Brett, Drew and Troy Lusby. https://gofund.me/cfe09812

Although I only saw Joy several times since high school, it was a pleasure to have known her.

Dayna and family...So sorry for your loss. She was so engaged in your lives, loved family fun, beamed with pride about her grandkids´ accomplishments and continued to participate, even though it was getting increasingly hard for her. We talked occasionally and she loved a good story and loved to laugh. I admired Joy for her positivity...to spite her illness, she pushed its boundaries, and kept enjoying life. She was so brave.

My husband Patrick and I worked with Joy in real estate for many years The name "Joy" suited her well as she was a joy to work with and in general. She had a great sense of humor and always a smile on her face

I feel like a part of my childhood has died. Joy and I grew up in the same neighborhood, often running after lightening bugs or playing " dress up" with old grown up clothes. Later we graduated to playing kick ball or baseball in the field behind the Allen's house.

I also graduated with Joy in 1965. As often happens,we move on and lose touch. At the most recent reunion,I was able to connect with Joy and bring back those child hood memories of running the streets of Reynolds Ave. and State St.

May your zest for life live on in your grandchildren.

Joy was a joy to be around, always upbeat, smiling , laughing and having a good time. She was afraid of nothing. Told she had cancer, she hiked the Appalachian trail, walked proudly bareheaded and beat her odds for years. She loved her family beyond belief and lived life to the fullest. I will miss her positive spirit a lot. I know she is partying in heaven . Love and miss you dear friend!!!

So saddened by Joy's untimely passing. As a former classmate and friend, Joy truly lived up to her name with her zest for life and devotion to her family. She will be missed, but not forgotten. May God bless you and keep you close dear Joy.
