Norma Christman

NORMA CHRISTMAN, 90, FORMERLY OF POTTSTOWN Norma (Yerger) Christman, 90, formerly of Pottstown, PA, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Parkhouse Providence Pointe, Royersford, PA. She was the wife of the late Gerald Durrell Christman, Sr., who died in 1989. Born in Lower Pottsgrove Twp., PA, she was a daughter of the late Nevin R. Yerger and Alverda (Weigner) Yerger. Norma attended Pottsgrove and Pottstown Schools. She was employed as a sewing machine operator at Shualls, Pottstown Children's Wear, Osmans, Loomcraft and Sunset Manufacturing. She retired in 1986. She enjoyed sewing and made a lot of her grandchildren's clothes. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and made many beautiful afghans. She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church, Pottstown, where she taught children's Sunday School for 37 years. She was also on church council and sang in the choir. In recent years she became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Pottstown. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and did volunteer work for many organizations. She was recognized for her volunteer services by the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in Valley Forge for making blankets for the homeless. She is survived by a son, Gerald Durnell Christman, Jr. and his wife Phyllis, Pottstown; a daughter, Dawn Pace Varady, Pottstown; a sister, Gladys, wife of Earl Weikel of Pottstown; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; 10 step great great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert W. Yerger. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc. 955 N. Charlotte Street, Pottstown. Rev. Burlington Latshaw III, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Pottstown. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
