William “Pops” Scherfel, III, 72, of N. Coventry Twp. passed away peacefully on December 29, 2018 at Manor Care in Pottstown. He was married to his soulmate of forty-seven years Joan (Jariszewicz). He was the son of the late William and Evelyn Scherfel, Jr. William graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School in 1964, and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1966. He went on to attend Tarleton State in Texas, playing football and baseball. He played baseball for the Kansas City Royals AAA team, and played softball well into his 50’s. Dad was an avid hunter, and loved all types of fishing, especially surf fishing in Wildwood, NJ. He also loved going to OJR football games. He loved gardening, working in the yard, telling jokes and stories. Anyone who ever met him knew he was one of a kind and unforgettable. Surviving besides his wife is a sister, Betty, wife of Dr. Robert Kaneda. His children, William Scherfel, IV husband of Kelly, Kristen Scherfel companion of Jeffrey Lang, and Kevin Wausnock husband of Cheryl; three grandchildren, William Quinn, Hunter, Natalie fiancée of Brandon Mullen, three nieces, and one nephew. He leaves behind his Rottweiler Scooby Doo and eight cats. A memorial service will be held 11:30 A.M. on Saturday January 26, 2019 at the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St., Pottstown. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. The family requests no flowers. Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Cats & Dogs, the Zoo of Nay Aug Park, 1900 E. Gibson St., Scranton, PA 18510. Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA. Our web site exists to serve the friends and family of the deceased. Such a character will be missed, especially at the polling places. Anyone living in Kenilworth had to know Bill who could catch your ear and talk of many things.

Sorry to hear of bill passing I meet bill in1993 through herb Evans very good friend of bill's we had wonderfull great time hunting up in pocono's he always called me big guy but I thing be was the big guy & I was the old guy sure wished I could of came across bill I my baseball games would of been some game I'll miss a great friend and good cook when we went hunting send my prayers to Family
