Bryan Byers Obituary

Bryan A. Byers

MANHATTAN - Bryan A. Byers, beloved son, companion, brother, and uncle, departed this earth on April 7, 2011.

He was born in Beacon to Helen Heroy Byers and Fred R. Byers on March 16, 1968.

Bryan was educated in Beacon City schools and subsequently studied Fine Arts at SUNY New Paltz.

Bryan was an accomplished artist and potter; many of us were fortunate enough to have received a piece of his beautiful pottery by which to remember him. He was employed by Sports Illustrated and attended the 1998 Olympic Games, on assignment in Atlanta.

Bryan was a fabulous cook, avid gardener and traveled extensively to Europe, Turkey, Mexico, and Cuba. He was a wonderful, imaginative, and attentive uncle to his niece, Autumn, who viewed his visits as a very special treat because of his sense of humor, mischievous smile, and his ability to fascinate and delight her.

Bryan loved music, especially Broadway musicals, and enjoyed tinkering with computers, although sometimes to the detriment of his machines! But Bryan might have been happiest riding the waves and swimming in the ocean at Fire Island, where he spent many wonderful summers.

In addition to his companion of many years, Schuyler Bishop, Bryan is survived by his mother, brother Joseph P. Bradley, sister Kimberley Bradley-Lennon, brother-in-law Kevin T. Lennon, his beloved niece, Autumn Rose Lennon, devoted friend Theresa Benson and many other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service celebrating his life was held on May 1, 2011 at his favorite stretch of beach on Fire Island.

I am so sorry to hear about Bryan. I lost touch with him many years ago, but we worked together at Walden Books in the Newburgh Mall and took a pottery class, his first (I think) at Dutchess Community College. He was a great person and I know he will be missed.
