Constance Thayer

Red Hook - Constance "Connie" Thayer, a life-long resident of Red Hook, NY, died peacefully at home on March 12, 2021.

Connie was born on October 31, 1947 in Yonkers, NY to the late Patricia and Gerald Cohen. After graduating from Red Hook High School in 1966, Connie spent a brief period at Harcum College in Pennsylvania before returning to Red Hook to marry her high school sweetheart, Timothy Thayer, in 1969. Timothy predeceased her in 2007.

Connie worked for years at Red Hook High School as a library aide. She was a gentle and caring support person for many students who passed through. She also took great pride in constructing beautiful wreaths at Battenfeld's Tree Farm each holiday season for decades.

Connie was happiest with the wind in her face and the sand in her toes. Her favorite, most calming moments involved combing the beaches of Cape Cod and Vieques- collecting sea glass and shells. She was most comfortable in a pair of old Crocs sporting the best sun tan around. Connie was incredibly proud and supportive of her sons and was present at every sporting event and memorable moment in their lives. She was a nurturing caregiver, a dedicated friend, and a lover of horses, cats and Cocker Spaniels. She was a proud Grandmother to Holden, and they both looked forward to visits at her house after school to share some Oreos.

As a true testament to her character, Connie fought her battle with Parkinson's disease to the very end with resilience and courage. Connie is survived by her children; Ryan (Jessica) Thayer of South Westerlo, NY, and Cody (Tessa) Thayer of Germantown, NY; her grandson Holden Thayer; her siblings David (Laura) Cohen of Vieques, PR and Nancy Hart Servin of Oakland,CA and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her stepfather; F.P. Hart Jr. and her stepbrother; Thomas P. Hart.

The family would like to thank Shenae Biggs; a dedicated caregiver and a true blessing to Connie and the entire Thayer family.

Connie and I worked together at Church Street Nursery school, later on at RHHS. We had lots of laughs. What a wonderful soul. The last time I saw her, about a year ago, she talked about her boys and grandson. She was so proud of you all! Please accept my deepest condolences.

Family,
My sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to you all. It saddens me to learn of the passing of Connie. Connie was a dear friend back in the 80s...played alot of softball together, drank some beers and at the time, solved all the world's problems...always at Battenfields around the holidays spreading her love to all.
Rest in peace Connie...❤
