Daniel Zic

Milan - Daniel J. Zic, 64, a lifelong Milan resident, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on April 14, 1955, in Rhinebeck, NY, he was the son of Mary (Skuba) Zic of Milan, NY and the late Daniel B Zic.

Daniel was a member of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook and he married Marianne Schussler on September 21, 1985 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Red Hook, NY.

Daniel followed in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, as a third generation dairy farmer. Dan worked on their family farm in the town of Milan for more than half his life, and continued with small-scale livestock farming. The love of dairy farming always stayed with him. He also worked as a driver for Ruge's Auto Parts in Red Hook and Antique & Vintage Woods in Pine Plains. Most recently, he was a machine operator with Flanders Filters in Hudson.

Dan graduated from Red Hook High School and attended the Dairy Science program at SUNY Cobleskill, coming home on weekends to work on the family farm. He had a very full life and was dedicated to his family, and taking care of his mother.

He had been an assistant scoutmaster with RH Boy Scouts Troop 42, and had been actively involved in 4-H with his sons. Dan loved baseball, playing softball, and camping with the Boy Scouts and his family. He looked forward to horseshoes with the Eastern Horseshoe League in Red Hook along with trips to Yankee Stadium for baseball games and to Cooperstown- Baseball Hall of Fame with his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Marianne and mother, Mary, Dan is survived by his three sons, Samuel Zic of Milan, NY, Jeffrey Zic of Port Ewen, NY, and Derek Zic of Milan; several cousins; his sister in law and brother in law Linda and Steve Taft in Arizona; along with extended family and friends.

Services will be announced at a later date.
