EAST FISHKILL - Doris Riggs McBride of Hopewell Junction died on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She was 86 years of age.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, Doris was the daughter of Mr. Joseph H. Riggs and Ruth Dorminey Riggs. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. On June 23, 1947, she married Dr. Hamlin McBride of Yorktown Heights. In 1949, they settled down in Carmel, where Hamlin practiced dentistry until his death in 1991.

In her earlier years, Doris performed in plays and choral groups with the Fort Sill, Oklahoma Dramatic Club, the Ft. Meade, MD Showcase and later in Sloat Hall in Carmel. Her plays included "Arsenic and Old Lace", "Dear Ruth" and "The Boy Friend" among others. She utilized her nursing skills at the Walter Reed Medical Hospital in Ft. Meade, MD and later at the Mahopac Hospital, a small single story building located near Lake Mahopac. The Mahopac Hospital closed in the early 1960's with the opening of the current Putnam Community Hospital. Doris later volunteered her services as a founding member of the Carmel Ambulance Corp.

Hamlin and Doris loved to play golf, ski and canoe with their family and friends. They were members of the Carmel Country Club, the Mahopac Golf Club and the Gilead United Presbyterian Church. Doris was also a member of the Carmel Flower Club.

Doris is survived by her sister, Frances Spencer of Tucson, AZ.; her step brother, David Dorminey of Charlotte, SC; her sons, Glen McBride and his wife Kathleen Bolz McBride of Hopewell Junction and Dr. Gary McBride and his wife Debbie Wattam McBride of Buffalo; and her three grandchildren, Kelly and Chris McBride of Hopewell Junction and Katlyn McBride of Buffalo.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Gloria McCanna on Friday at 3:30 pm at the funeral home.
