Eileen Irwin Obituary

Eileen Veronica Irwin

Millbrook - Eileen Veronica Irwin, 86, a long time Millbrook resident formerly of the Bronx, Fishkill and Jay entered into eternal peace on April 25, 2014, after enduring a long illness with never-ending patience and unfailing good humor.

Born at home in Long Island City on November 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Mary McMahon Murphy and John McMahon.

Eileen graduated from St Benedict Joseph Labre Elementary School, Mount St. Ursula Academy High School and Our Lady of Victory Business School.

On September 4, 1948 she married Harry M. Irwin Jr. at Our Lady of Mercy Church in the Bronx. He predeceased her on September 2, 1994.

Eileen was previously employed at Foley and Martin on Wall Street, J. M. Huber in Manhattan and, after raising her family, Bennett College and Cardinal Hayes Home in Millbrook.

Eileen was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, an original member and former officer of the St. Joseph's Women's Guild, and a volunteer at St. Joseph's School. She was a troop leader for the Cub Scouts and a member of the now extinct Coffee Club.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters Annabelle McMahon and Margaret Mahon, and several other close family members.

Eileen is survived by her children William and Barbara Irwin Sr. of North Syracuse NY, Mary Eileen and Lonn Moore of Millbrook NY, Nancy and Gary Karn of Millbrook, NY, Elizabeth Irwin-Klopp and Gary Klopp of Deerfield Beach, FL, Harry and Lori Irwin III of Waunakee, WI, grand children William Irwin Jr., Robert Irwin, Joshua Irwin, and Alyssa Irwin, her sister Joan Warnock, several in-laws, nieces, nephews , cousins, and numerous loving friends.

Eileen was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. Never one to let age or health define her, she took up cross country skiing in her retirement, along with accomplishing the bobsled run at the Lake Placid Olympic site. She was known among family and friends to be a walking encyclopedia of significant dates, but more importantly as a nonjudgmental, compassionate soul who could lift everyone's spirits with her positive attitude, sense of humor, contagious laughter, and warm smile.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 2, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Avenue, Millbrook, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 12:30 PM at St. Joseph's Church, North Avenue, Millbrook, NY. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph's Church, P O Box 439, Millbrook, NY 12545.
