Elfriede I. Schmidt

DOVER - Elfriede I. Schmidt, 90, a resident of Dover for 30 years and formerly of Brewster and Patterson, died on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Putnam Hospital Center.

Born in Hermsdorf, Germany on February 6, 1924, she was the daughter of Albien and Milda Loetz Meinhardt. Elfriede had volunteered as a foster grandparent at Wassaic Developmental Center and attended the Dover Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and working around her home.

In 1947 in Germany, Elfriede married Karl Schmidt who predeceased her in 1968. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dieter and JoAnn Schmidt of Wappingers Falls, Rita and Robert Herman of Pawling, Ralph Schmidt of Germantown, Karl and Andrea Schmidt of Georgetown, OH; her grandchildren, Jesse and Ysolt Schmidt, Travis and Teairra Schmidt and Peter Schmidt, Heidi and Dan Svrcek, Robert Herman Jr., Jeremy Schmidt, Dustin and Jessica Schmidt, Trevor and Elizabeth Schmidt, Anna Schmidt; her great-grandchildren, Andru, Stone, Sailor, Robert and Lukas; and many loving family members and friends in Germany. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Interment will be in the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson at the convenience of the family.

Dear Dieter and Joann....we are so sorry to learn of the passing of your mom. What a remarkable woman she must have been. Being out of town this week, I was unaware until today and regretfully was not able to attend the wake. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and those of your SFPHV family.
