Rhinebeck - Ellen (McCarthy) Hubbert, 79, passed away on July 12, 2021 at her home in Rhinebeck.

She was born on October 26, 1941 in Woodside, Queens, NYC to parents Thomas McCarthy and Mildred (Melius) McCarthy (both deceased). In 1953 she and her family moved to the hamlet of Shultzville, NY. In 1956 they moved into the Village of Rhinebeck. She attended Rhinebeck High School where she was President of her Senior Class, graduating in 1959.

She was accepted at SUNY Cortland where she majored in Elementary Education. She graduated from Cortland in 1963.

She then taught at Red Hook Elementary School for a year, then taught at Rhinebeck Elementary School for 29 years, and served on the Buildings and Principal Search Committees.

Meanwhile, in 1963, she married Laurence Beach (now deceased). Their daughter Lauren D. Beach was born in 1965, and their son Carl T. Beach was born in 1968. She re-married in 1990 to E. Stephen Hubbert.

While teaching, and then beyond her retirement in 2000, she volunteered with the Rhinebeck Alumni Association, the Rhinebeck American Legion Auxiliary (Volunteer, Chaplin & President), the Rhinebeck Conservation Advisory Council, the Rhinebeck Zoning Board of Appeals, the Rhinebeck Parking Commission, the Rhinebeck Village Trustees (first female Trustee), the Museum of Rhinebeck History, the Rhinebeck Reformed Church (Choir, Apple Festival, Buildings & Grounds Chair), the Rhinebeck/Rheinbach (Musical) Exchange Program, the Rhinebeck @ Home Board and the Northern Dutchess Hospital (Volunteer, Auxiliary, and Thrift Shop). The Rhinebeck Rotary presented her with their "Service Above Self" award in 2005.

She is survived by her husband E. Stephen (Steve) Hubbert, daughter Lauren D. Beach, son Carl T. Beach, step-son Edward T. Hubbert, several cousins and two grandchildren, Adam and Grace Beach.

Calling Hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck on Sunday July 18 from 3pm to 6pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Rhinebeck Reformed Church 6368 Mill St., Rhinebeck, on Monday July 19 at 10:30am.

Burial will follow in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
