Frank Lombardi Obituary

Frank M. "King of Highways"

Lombardi

Highland, NY - Frank M. Lombardi, 89, of Highland, NY passed away peacefully Thursday morning. He was the son of the late Benny and Aurora Lombardi.

Once again the family would like to thank the staff at the Pines of Poughkeepsie for their unyielding devotion, excellent care and great compassion. Mr. Lombardi's wife, Ann passed away there on July 12, 2015 and the family will always be indebted to all who assisted. Frank leaves behind his son Benjamin and son in law Stephen Kahn. He also leaves behind his sisters Rita Lombardi, Doris McGrath, Rose (Chubby) Lombardi and her husband William Crowder, and Mary Lombardi and her husband Roger Gardner.

Frank was predeceased by his sisters Antoinette and husband Charlie Ligotino, Fanny and her husband Peter Ligotino, June and her husband John (Skippy) Barry, Bernice Lombardi and Lucy Lombardi. He also was predeceased by his brother John Lombardi, and baby brother Benny Lombardi.

Frank had a storied career in the Hudson Valley, a family of what would have been twelve children of immigrant parents who settled in a small town called Highland. He embodied the true meaning of a small town son, working after quitting grade school to help support his family. He learned and worked hard to build a multimillion dollar business. In later years after retiring, he went on to become a twenty year elected official as the Town of Lloyd Highway Superintendent. A few years back he was most proud when he received his honorary High School Diploma issued by then Governor George Pataki. His contributions are vast ranging from highway development, municipal sewer line jobs, and contracts with con rail to building soccer fields, cemeteries and endless and selfless donations of time and money to better his beloved community of Highland.

Calling hours will take place Sunday, October 30th from 2pm-7pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Street level and wheelchair accessible entrance is located of Vassar Street. The family is honored to be able to lay to rest Highlands first son Frank next to his beloved wife on Monday, October 31st in Highland Cemetery, Highland, NY following a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10am at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. Uncle Frank, you will be missed! I will always cherish the fond memories I have of you and Aunt Ann, who were always so good to me as a child. I loved our trip to Catskill Game Farm, and the other fun things we did together. I will always remember Uncle Frank calling me "Dollie," and his singular smile and cologne! Lots of love.

So sorry to hear of Frank's death, I did not know
he was a goodd friend and while I was a Court
clerk in Marlboro, we use to attend classes in New York every year and would see him in the Highland
diner. He was a great gentleman and a good friend. Betty Mackey, Marlboro, NY 12542

Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy is sent to the Lombardi family. I worked with Frank at the Town of Lloyd, and he was the first to support my GIS initiative in his service to the town. He was generous to a fault to our Democrats, to his State and Local Highway colleagues and to the Lions Club, but most importantly he was a man who transcended any lines and served the whole town regardless of anyone's identity. He truly was a legend in his own time, and now for all time. He always was upbeat and energetic - inspiring all of us to do better. Rest in peace, Frank. We love you.

I was very fortunate to meet Frank when I had moved across the U.S. from California in 1996. Frank and his wife Ann helped me establish myself in the Hudson Valley. He was a great support to me and my family that I will always remember. Sincerely, Ralph Cashen
