Gary Hegedus Obituary

Gary J. Hegedus

Highland - Gary James Hegedus, a long time resident of Highland, died at his home March 15th after a brief illness. He was 76. He is survived by two sisters, his three sons, and their families, including five grandchildren. He lost his loving wife Lillian in 1999.

Mr Hegedus was born in Brooklyn on July 27th 1937. After finishing high school he attend college for a short time, followed by a stint in the National Guard.

He married Lillian Drago in 1960, settling in Brooklyn. After their third son was born the family moved to Highland in 1974.

Mr Hegedus worked for Merrill Lynch in Poughkeepsie, then for the state of New York, from which he retired in 2000. An avid reader Mr. Hegedus also enjoyed feeding and watching the various species of birds that made their home on his Highland property.

Engaging and personable, Mr. Hegedus was quick to share a joke, an interesting fact or his opinion, be it solicited or not. A celebration of his life with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held this Friday 11:00am March 21st at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be private.
