George Capizzuto

George W. Capizzuto, 83, a resident of Poughquag for 43 years, died on February 19, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He previously lived in the Bronx.

Born in the Bronx on June 27, 1933, he was the son of the late George and Florence (Custance) Capizzuto. He proudly served in the US Air Force as a radio operator during the Korean War, and remained active in the American Legion.

George retired in 1995 as Contract Administrator and Inspector from Con Edison where he worked for over 44 years. He remained active in the Westchester Con Ed Retirees Board, and served as treasurer and more recently as assistant treasurer.

George was an avid reader who also liked going to Atlantic City and listening to Rush Limbaugh. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoying spending time with them.

On January 7, 1961 at Our Lady of Solace Church in the Bronx, George married Agnes (Coppola) Capizzuto. His loving wife of 56 years survives at home. He is also survived by his daughters, Denise Holzberger of Poughquag and Diane Capizzuto of Poughquag; his granddaughters, Christina Holzberger of Brooklyn and Danielle Holzberger of Chino, CA; his brother, James R. Capizzuto and his wife Marie of Yonkers; and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased just 5 days ago by his brother, Robert W. Capizzuto on February 15, 2017.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will held on Friday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
