Harold Berean Obituary

Harold Conn

Berean, Jr.

HIGHLAND - It is with profound sadness that our beloved Harold was called home unexpectedly on Thursday, March 28th. Born on May 29, 1942, Harold was a lifelong resident of Highland and was very active in many civic and political organizations. He was the 2nd generation proprietor of Berean Press Inc., and spent nearly 5 decades in the commercial printing business. Harold was currently employed by All American Ford in Kingston

On August 5, 1967, Harold married the love of his life, Patricia Penny, a partnership, friendship and marriage of over 45 years. Family was his highest priority and he is the proud father of three children. Mary Ivich (Anthony), Harold III (Kathleen), and Stephanie Berean-Weeks (Clifford, Jr.). Harold is the loving and doting grandfather of six grandchildren: Morgan, Colin, Brenna, Emily, Kelly and Clifford III.

Inspired by his father, Harold grew up with a great sense of community and proudly served as Town Councilman from 1970-1974 and two terms as Town of Lloyd Supervisor; 1994-97 and 2000-2001. His love of youth sports provided Harold with over sixty years on the baseball diamonds of Highland. He was passionate about his latest role of District 16 umpire and loved every pitch, every hit and every inning spent with the many generations of ballplayers that have come through the Highland Little League.

Harold was an avid fan of all motorsports and truly cherished his NASCAR Sunday's with his family and friends. He was the ultimate "Monday Morning Quarterback" and readily offered his opinion, whether you wanted it or not.

In recent days, our family has taken great comfort in the outpouring of kind words and fond memories of our dear Harold. He was our brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, father in law, coach and trusted friend. Time spent with family and friends were his greatest joy and he embraced each and every moment with his precious children and grandchildren.

Harold was humble, he was kind, he was compassionate and he gave and loved without hesitation. We will miss him dearly and hold tightly to the countless memories and that constant and one of a kind smile.

Harold is survived at home by his wife Patricia, brother Tom of California, sisters Patricia Fox, Lagrangeville, Jacqueline Westa, Ballston Spa and Cynthia Robbins, Monsey. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Alice and sister Susan.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Harold's name to the Highland Little League or the Highland United Soccer Club.

Calling hours are Monday April 1st from 4 to 8pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main St. Highland, NY 12528.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday April 2nd 10:00am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland.

We were all deeply saddened when we heard of Harold's sudden passing. He was a great guy who spent his entire life serving others- especially the youth of our community. He has positively effected hundreds of local kids, and was one of a small handful of people who brought soccer to Highland over 40 years ago. His energy and passion for youth sports always made the games played for or against him that much more special.

I am so sorry to hear of Harold's passing. My late husband Joseph and Harold were childhood friends and their friendship endured for many years. I remember how they shared a passion for politics decades ago.
