He was born December 6, 1922 in Albany NY to Hugh and Catherine(Keough) Walsh and was a communicant and an usher at St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie. His three siblings, Thomas J. Walsh, Eileen M. O'Brien and Joseph Walsh predeceased him. On August 13, 1949 he married Marian Duncovich in Amsterdam, NY. They were married for 59 years when she passed away on May 22, 2009.

He is survived by their four children: Ellen and her husband James Kishbaugh, David and his wife Stephanie Walsh, Margaret (Peggy) Walsh and Mary Elizabeth (Beth) and her husband Richard Thorn, all of whom reside in Poughkeepsie.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, David Gedris and his wife Lisa, Mark Gedris and his wife DoriAnn, Karen Gedris, James Gedris and his wife Lauren, Brian Walsh and his fiance Kerri McConville, Jillian Walsh and Katie Thorn as well as two great grandchildren and was happily looking forward to the arrival of two more great grandchildren this summer.

Hugh is a graduate of The Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and Siena College in Loudonville, NY. He received his Masters degree in Physics from RPI in Troy in 1953 and was a member of Sigma XI Scientific Honor Society. Hugh Walsh served with honor and pride in the USMC in both the Pacific and Chinese Theaters during World War II as a Lieutenant, and as a Captain during the Korean War in 1951-1952. He participated in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight trip to Washington in April 2014 with other WWII veterans, a day about which he often spoke proudly of with family and friends.

He was an Associate Professor of Physics at Siena College from 1946-1950 and after his military service in 1952-1955. Hugh joined IBM in 1955 and worked in positions of ever increasing responsibility with them as a program manager in Engineering and Scientific Planning. He received several corporate and divisional awards for his contributions. Following his formal retirement in 1986, Hugh became a consultant to IBM's Large Systems for Engineering and Planning Applications until 1990. Hugh and his beloved wife Marian traveled extensively after their retirements filling photo albums documenting their travels. He started running when he was 55 and enjoyed telling stories about how he ran in many cities all over the world and on all but one of the continents.
