James Ignatius Menapace
Chestertown, MD - It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of James Menapace on January 27, 2021. Jim leaves behind his mom Eileen, devoted wife Therese and his three young children, Tommy and Christina (age 10) and Mary (age 7), who loved their daddy more than words can convey. Jim was an attentive dad who was involved in every aspect of his children's lives. Tommy, Christie, and Mary loved to cuddle with their Dad, and in the summer, they enjoyed swimming in their backyard pool or playing in the backyard.
"Jimmy" was a kind, thoughtful, and pleasant man, who loved spending time with his family and friends. Jim was a loyal friend, as many of his friends can attest. He remained close to his friends from elementary school as well as St. Lawrence University, and his time at Sodexo. He went to great lengths to stay connected to his friends, traveling to see them many times over the years. Jim was a lover of life and passionate about so many things. He loved watching sports over a beer especially his frustrating NY Mets and the NY Giants. He was a proud and active Democrat, who together with his dad, would enjoy sharing with other his perspective which always seemed to contain an insider's knowledge about what was going on in DC.
Jim enjoyed a successful law career that spanned more than 30 years including his role as Assistant General Counsel at Sodexo. He was a graduate of St. Lawrence University, Dickenson School of Law, and the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. While an undergrad, Jim spent a semester at American University and enjoyed an internship for Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of NYS. He also started a "Biden for President" club at SLU; while he may have been the only member, this was the start of his love of politics.
A fund has been created, and can be found at
www.fhnfuneralhome.com, in lieu of flowers to provide an avenue for Jim's family, friends, and colleagues to sustain Jim's legacy and his goal to provide for his children's future educational endeavors. The twins in grade 5 often studied for their tests with Jim and Mary, grade 2, enjoyed spending time with Dad running errands in town.
Jim leaves us way too soon and he will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends, neighbors, and colleagues. His nephew Sam said, "Uncle Jimmy was a great man, a great Uncle, a great father and a just a great person to have a conversation with".
He is predeceased by his father Lawrence Menapace, brother John Menapace, uncles John Mullan Jr., James Ignatius Mullan, and Edmund Mullan
Jim is survived by his wife Therese Woods; three children, Thomas, Christina and Mary Menapace; his mother Eileen Menapace; sister Barbara Menapace LaPilusa (John); uncle and aunt Phillip Mullan (Janet); aunt Pat Mullan (Charlie); aunt Nancy Mullan (Edmund.); three nephews Jack, Chase and Sam LaPilusa.
