John Healey Obituary

John H. Healey

'Jack'

Hyde Park - John H. (Jack) Healey, 77, a resident of Hyde Park for 44 years, died unexpectedly on Friday May 10, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

Born February 7, 1936 in Providence, Rhode Island, Jack was the son of the late William and Marguerite Riley Healey. He was a 1957 graduate of Providence College, and as a young man, served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.

In 1960, Jack began his career working for International Harvester in dealerships from Massachusetts to New York. He became a branch manager for a dealership in Albany before eventually purchasing his own dealership, Healey International Trucks, in November of 1973 in Poughkeepsie. Jack retired in October 2008.

On April 23, 1960 at North Providence, Rhode Island, Jack married Janice Benedetti. Mrs. Healey survives at home. Jack and Jan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010. He was her rock; the love of her life.

Jack loved sports. An excellent baseball player, he was voted Most Valuable Player for baseball in his senior year at Providence. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, and a strong supporter of Marist College Athletics. He loved going to Marist basketball, baseball, and football games. Jack was honored in February 2011 for his longtime support of Marist College Basketball. Jack played in the Hyde Park Men's, and the Poughkeepsie Men's Fastpitch Softball Leagues. He was also a sponsor of a team, Healey International, in both leagues from the mid 80's to the late 90's and also sponsored a travel softball team that played in tournaments throughout the Northeast during the same time period. "His generosity with the teams as well as everything in life was incredible. There's never been a better sponsor than Jack Healey." Most recently, he played in Poughkeepsie Men's Over 60 Softball League at Spratt Park.

Jack was a member of the Amrita Club in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Golf and Country Club, Marist College Red Fox Club, and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Hyde Park Council # 6111.

He was a communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park. Jack loved his church, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for a number of years.

Jack loved his family. He was a wonderful father; he was so proud of his children, and he so loved his 10 grandchildren. He will be missed forever.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Jack Healey M.D., and wife, Lisa, of Grand Rapids, MI, Chris Healey and wife, Eileen, of Swedesboro, NJ, Janice L. Carey and husband, Kevin, of Middleboro, Mass., and Dana M. Alia and husband, Chris Alia M.D., Of Bethlehem, PA; and ten grandchildren, Addison, Audra, and Jack III Healey, Chris Jr., Jack, And Regan Healey, Jason and Vanessa Carey, and Lauren and William Alia.

In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by a brother, William F. Healey.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 PM, Tuesday, May 14th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. The Hyde Park Knights of Columbus will conduct services during the calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday, May 15th at Regina Coeli Church, Route 9, Hyde Park.

Jack's burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the Healey family respectfully request donations to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016. (www.kidney.org)

Jack and I go back many years. In 1966, Jack hired me as a sales trainee for International....The day I reported for work (07/05/66), Jack was on vacation and never told anyone that he had hired me! I sat at his desk and read Sales Engineering bulletins for two weeks, until he returned. In 1972 I followed Jack to the IH Poughkeepsie branch as manager.....In 1973 he came back and purchased the branch. At that point I became a District Manager and Jack was one of my dealers. Over the years we had many "memorable" lunches & etc. Jack was one of people I considered a real friend. I stayed in touch through the years.....Jack you will be missed.
Randi and I send our sincere sympathy to Jan and the family.

Dearest Aunt Jan and family,
We are so very sorry for your loss of your wonderful husband and exceptional father. He was always a mentor to me and a source of comfort when my own father passed away. He had a wonderful way about him, a warmth along with a lighthearted sense of humor. It will be difficult to say goodbye to him, so we will just say so long for now. Love to all, the Cardillo family.
